server with local storage only, i did it the standard way and after the install finished the server boots up with the ext3-fs error unable to read inode block following error:CPU0:1024)VMNIX:<0> journal commit I/O Error. It boots up and starts pinging, i have a remote console connected because i can not access it neither via PUTTY nor VIC. when i press f1 to logon i get ext3-fs error (device sda6) in start_transaction journal has aborted this: "servername login: EXT3-fs error (device cciss(104,6)) in start_transactionJournal has aborted"I think this is pointing clearly to a local storage problem so i guess i can get a new set of drives and re-install, but would like to know the community input as i have found many useful tips here. Thanks in advance! If you find this or any other answer useful please consider awarding points by marking the answer correct or helpful

AndreTheGiant May 27, 2009 3:01 AM (in response to elgordojimenez) Filesystem is corrupted.First try to fix with fsck.If you also see I/O error in kernel message (use dmesg and watch the last lines), then could also be an hardware issue.Andre**if you found this or any other answer useful please consider allocating points for helpful or correct answers Like Show 0 Likes (0) Actions 2. Re: error after new install: CPU0:1024)VMNIX:<0> journal commit I/O Error. elgordojimenez May 27, 2009 5:33 AM (in response to AndreTheGiant) hello Andres thanks man. i ran the fsck and it found many errors, then i ran the dmesg and there were loads of these errors as well. the issue persisted to I did the following:swapped the chassis to eliminate a hardware problem, nothing.in the new chassis re created the raid array and upgraded the BIOS to the latest EXCEPT for the RAID CONTROLLER, did a clean installation again with custom partitions and now the errors are gone.so whatever it was it was down to either the 1) raid controller BIOS on the original box or 2) custom partition scheme selected.I found this post with more info. http://communities.vmware.com/thread/
