Regardless of the size of the file, or type, such as .mp3 or .exe for example - it downloads a few hundred KB's then says error. I can, however download from app world and I can browse. The device is a Curve 9360. I'm on an EDGE coverage using BIS.I've cleared browser memory, did a reset by pulling out the battery, deleted browser service books and re-

By ObiGeorge Tuesday, Aug 17, 2010 at 2:26 pm EDT 39 Comments One of the biggest complaints I have seen about the BlackBerry OS has been the very low (2.9mb) limit on file downloads from the internet. Well finally, RIM has addressed this massive complaint and now allows for large file downloads via the BlackBerry browser. As you can see in the screenshots above, I had no trouble downloading the latest CrackBerry Podcast straight from the internet (Bla1ze, you can smile now). While there is no word on what the actual max download is (if any), I have personally downloaded files in excess of 100mb which is all we really need. So if you have a new Torch 9800, get on that webkit browser and download away! Like us! The problem is that the Blackberry Browser limits the download size to files 2.3mb or smaller. This usually is not a problem for most things mobile. But lets say you wanted to download a large .pdf, or a PowerPoint, or anything that is larger than the browser limit: you can't. 0mie over at 0mietech blackberry browser download has found a work around to this limitation. No longer does one have to install Opera Mini in order to install a larger sized file. It can be done right in the native Blackberry Browser. The reason for the limitation is that RIM sets its WAP and Internet to a specific port. It is literally impossible to download anything larger than the 2.3mbs because that is the port limit. For an explanation in laymen's terms, try parking a Hummer in a garage that is meant for a sports car, you won't be able to do it. Therefore, in order to download files larger than 2.3mbs through the browser, the port in which the browser accesses must be changed. In order to do so, follow these steps 1. Go to options > advanced options > service books. Then hold ALT and type SBEB, if you have a QWERTY keyboard. For Storm users ATL 4?2? should work. I am not sure how to do it for Surepress. Then you should get the pop up that you see below. 2. Once you have completed step 1 and have gotten the above pop up, you are ready to open the Desktop Manager. Go to Backup/Restore > Advanced > Open the .ipd file that is link
your friends! XD Thursday, January 05, 2012 Guide to downloading large files on a BlackBerry A lot of people have asked me how I download TV series, Japanese anime and Movies on my BlackBerry. So I've dicided to publish a guide on how I do it. What you will need: -------------------------- • A BlackBerry phone, preferabbly with 3G. I use a BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300. (BlackBerry Curve 8520 will not work as it has a download cap of about 25mb and will fail the download.) • BlackBerry Browser (preinstalled) • Opera Mini Browser Latest version (download available at http://www.mini.opera.com ) • A PC or Laptop to watch the shows, movies, anime etc. • BlackBerry USB Link cable to connect your phone to your PC or Laptop. Okay, so what usually happens with the BlackBerry browser is that when you try to open a non-mobile website (i.e. a website specifically for a PC) the browser will take so long that you get timed-out or a pop-up message states "Sorry, this page is taking too long to load, closing browser" or whatever. The reason it does this is because the file size of the page is too large compared to a mobile page which has a relatively small file size. So what do you do?! 1. Open Opera Mini and go to the desired webpage (Links at bottom) 2. Select the show, movie etc. that you wish to download. 3. Make sure you have the right link to the file (that's the link that if you click on it the download starts). 4. DO NOT start the download in Opera Mini, it will fail. Instead scroll over the link, push 1 on the keypad and select "Open in new tab". 5. Open the tab, cancel the Opera download. The tab should still be open with the exact download link. 6. Push the menu button, go to the address bar and select and COPY the link. 7. Back to the BlackBerry browser. Where it says "type search or address" PASTE the link you copied. 8. Save the file to a place you will remember or to the default file. 9. Be sure to put your phone in a spot that has full 3G as the download will go quicker. 10. Once the download is complete, connect your phone to your PC or Laptop and copy the file to somewhere on your HDD (Hard Drive)
