there is lackluster support for this model from dell, i had to do a lot of trial-and-error how to use killdisk with some drivers... mainly the ati video, resulting in buggy performance). but now that i have everything hammered out, i was going to do one last clean

install of 7. but that hasnt gone so well! okay, so i erased the partitions and formatted the C drive via the win 7 install disc. i made a new partition and chose it for the installation. the process runs for a while, killdisk vs dban but towards the end it pops up a box saying, "Windows could not format a partition on disk 0. The error ocurred while preparing the parition selected for installation. Error Code: 0x80070057." at this point i can try the install again, or reboot the pc. retrying to install is redundant. now when i reboot the computer, the bios screen loads, then it gives me the option to boot from the disc drive. if i dont press a key to boot from the cd, it says the BootMGR is killdisk instructions missing. so basically, im stuck here. it wont format the drive and install, and of course it wont boot without anything to boot. any ideas? I found a program called Virtual Floppy Drive that allowed me to create the drive and copy files to it, but it only works on 32-bit systems. When I try to run it on Windows 7 64-bit, it gives me an error saying the virtual drive can't run on how to use 64-bit systems. I also tried using the subst a: c:\myadrive in the command prompt, and it does not work. It supports Windows 7 64-bit. But there are comments on the Sourceforge page saying it does not work in Windows 7 64bit. One user (toantu) found a way and posted a comment further down. First copy the content of virtual floppy folder to C:\temp\. Six downloadable boot discs that could save your PC What to do when Windows won't boot? Lincoln Spector (PC World) on 08 May, 2008 15:20 0 - - - - print email Way back in the 20th century, Windows prepared you for the day your PC wouldn't boot. It came with a program that formatted a bootable floppy disk, complete with diagnostic and repair utilities. If you had the forethought to create that floppy while Windows was still working, you were ready when it eventually failed.Alas, the Windows boot floppy went the way of DOS (the operating system it actually booted). Modern versions can't make that floppy (they can format a bootable DOS floppy — if you have the drive — but without utilities), and DOS can't handle NTFS hard-drive partitions.Since Microsoft doesn't supply you with the ability to create an emergency boot disk, others have stepped in to fill the vacuum. Here are six worthwhile emergency boot CDs, all downloadable, and most of them free.Yes, I know you can't download a CD. Most of these packages come as ISO files — easily burnable disc images. If you double-click an ISO file, there's a good chance that a program you already own — perhaps Nero Burning or Easy Media Creator — will come up and burn it to CD. If that doesn't happen, download and install ISO Recorder.Know your rescue OSsSince DOS doesn't handle XP or Vista repairs well, each of these discs boots into one of the following three operating systems. It's good to know a little about them.Windows PE: The official, CD-bootable version of Windows (the PE stands for Preinstallation Environment) makes the obvious choice for this sort of thing. Unfortunately, Microsoft maintains strict control, and few utility authors have received permission to use it.BartPE: Since Microsoft won't share its pre-installation environment, Bart Lagerweij created his own, and he gives it away for free. But to avoid copyright infringement, he can't give you everything you need to create a BartPE disc. The missing elements consist of Windows XP installation files you may or may not already have.Linux live CD: The name refers to any versi
