I was told that it is completely how to open buffalo hd-pntu3 unused (seller just removed the hard drives), still with the protective films, scratch-less, smells new While waiting for it to be delivered, I did my search and ended up reading all related information that I found on the very useful wiki
Buffalo Ministation 3.0 Not Detected
here. I was basically being prepared for some telnet and linux/unix command prompt action, something that I am really unfamiliar with.So the unit arrived last night and I spent approximately 4 hours, trying to get it past the error message that you see on the thread title.Basically I have installed the 3 Seagate 500Gb SATA2 disks that I was using until now in my fileserver (RAID5 on a PERC5i), as I was happy with a 1Tb RAID5 array.Upon the first boot, I was greeted how to open buffalo external hard drive hd-pntu3 by the above mentioned error message and I thought that maybe the TS Pro II needs to see all SATA bays populated. Unfortunately I do not have a 4th 500Gb hard drive, so I used an 80Gb SATA drive temporarily, to see if I am going to be more familiar with setting the unit up (ordering a 4th 500Gb HDD depends on the success of the whole project). However, adding the 4th HDD changed nothing; I am still getting the "E07 - All HD not found", the alarm rings continuously and the boot pauses there. The netowrk lights on the back are all on, but neither the NASNavi nor the formware update utility can detect the unit in the network.I tried connecting it through my Netgear 10/100 switch/router and directly to my motherboard's 2nd Gbit port (result is always the same, no detection).I haven't tampered with the jumpers on the disks themselves, they're by default set to "Emulate SATA150" as sold by Seagate. Also, and I am not sure if this is relevant, the three 500Gb Seagate disks still have the hardware RAID signature of teh PERC5i controller card on them (I haven't wiped them off).Any suggestions on what the problem could be, would be greatly appreciated! However, a few months back, it got disconnected from my laptop by accident while running and from then on, some of the folders were bad (I simply couldn't open them--I was prompted to format my disk) while a few were still accessible. I tried copying all its contents to my computer to prepare to reformat it but, some of the folders, again, being corrupted, could http://forums.buffalotech.com/index.php?topic=4649.0 not be copied. Anyway, long story short, I have decided to just proceed with reformatting the ministation regardless of the few unsalvaged folders. I left my Windows to format it while asleep but woke up only to find a pop up window the next morning saying that it was unable to complete the formatting. I did it again that day but the same thing happened. The drive is now completely inaccessible--it's now identified as a generic 'local disk' instead of 'HD-PFU2' and when I double click it, I'm prompted to format it. Yet, as you can see, when I attempt to format it, it eventually fails. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Totally appreciate your help as I really need to get things into my drive. :) Cheerio~ Logged AngelsAbys El Toro Posts: 418 Re: Windows unable to complete format of MiniStation HD-PF500U2 « Reply #1 on: April 17, 2010, 07:24:07 AM » A couple of things could have happened to prompt such an error, the first is that by forcefully disconnecting the device a section of the hard disk has become corrupted, the other possibility is if had a hard call the platter was damaged. if the option is available for a disk check that would be the first area you could try but if Windows does not fully partit
