All the numerical information on the populationvariable of interest could be summarized into a numerical property of the populationcalled a parameter.We studied two types of population parameters: The Population Mean - , and thePopulation Proportion - p. The mean of the population summarizes information on apopulation variable that is quantitative (discrete or continuous); the proportion of thepopulation summarizes information on a qualitative population variable (what percentageof the population has a particular attribute?).Methods were discussed on how to find the value of the population parameter of interest,through a (i) census or (ii) conducting a random sample, with the latter methodologybeing the process used to estimate the value of the population parameter.
