This has worked for me on many occasions. Cheers, Dreadnought1 That's one way to do it, and I've had good luck with this, but there's an easier, but not as kosher way, I suppose. I simply copy the object mesh file, the *.pm file to a directory required for the shadow. I then rename the copied mesh file to the shadow, and the asset loads fine. It's a matter of following the naming convention required for the asset. I don't bother loading in any texture for the shadow because I don't care if there's one or not. Now PEV (Peter Vincent) has made a shadow creator utility, but I've never used it. If anyone can think of an easy fix for creating the missing shadows, I'd appreciate it, but it's not a big deal if you don't care whether you see the shadows or not, and it solves the missing shadow mesh problem. I've an alternative description for that piece of advice that I can't post here . Might be best if the OP ignored it entirely and contacted whoever made that asset for a possible usefull fix . your gmax, paintshed, etc. questions here. Moderators: jpkeenan, Momentum, n5vav, Meridious, Euphod Post a reply 11 posts • Page 1 of 1 LOD problem by jrockey » November 01 2007 Here I am again, back with another beginner's question. I hope I'm http://www.trainzproroutes.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5991 not becoming a pest here, but so far, trainzproroutes members have always been very helpful! I'd like to try to add LOD for a structure I'm working on (in this case, just two levels of detail, high and http://www.forum.british-trainz.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=174 low). It seems like a very straightforward process, but I'm having trouble getting it to work. After exporting files from Gmax and building the appropriate config and .lm.txt files, I imported them (via Content Manager Plus into Trainz how to 2006). I get the following error when I commit: MeshData::Init() Unable to load indexed mesh 'my_new_building.lm' The problem goes away if I change out the ".lm" in my Config file to ".im", so I assume the high poly Gmax generated .im mesh is OK (I can also load the low poly mesh the same way, and it works fine too). That fact seems to indicate that the mesh files and textures are OK. Noting from one how to fix of Phil Campbell's (World of Trainz) tutorials that the error message sometimes indicates attachment point problems, I made sure my only attachment point (for a smoking chimney) is exactly the same attachment point in both the high and low poly im files. I've checked the syntax for the .lm.txt file many times (against the sample in Auran's CCG) and it looks fine. All of my files are located in the same directory. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong... can anyone suggest anything? jrockey TPR Forum Member Posts: 8Joined: April 13 2007 Top by Pencil42 » November 02 2007 Usually when I run into that problem, it's because I don't have the same attachment points in both files - either I accidentally exported one lod w/o the attachment points, or the attachment points aren't in the same location in each file. One thing you can do is in your .lm file, call your high detail model for both the high and low lods. Then repeat for the low detail model. If both those work ok, then that would point to an attachment point problem. If one or the other doesn't work, then investigate that particular mesh. Sometimes when I export, I accidentally have one part of the mesh selected in GMAX - when that happens; only that part is exported Good luck! Curtis P
