into a folder on your hard drive. You also have to make GarageBand aware of them. To do that, you must force GarageBand to index new loops, thereby building an internal card catalog of the loops and their locations. If anything goes wrong with GarageBand’s loop index, you may discover that all the buttons in the Loop browser are dimmed and no loops appear in its list. Some loops may exist in name only. how to split a track in garageband In these situations, the solution is to rebuild the GarageBand loop index. Step 1 Quit GarageBand. In the Finder, open your hard drive and go to Library: Application Support: GarageBand: Apple Loops. Inside, you’ll see the text files that constitute your current index. Drag these files to the Trash. Step 2 Restart GarageBand and click on the Loop Browser button (which looks like an eye). GarageBand will display the No Apple Loops Found dialog box. Click on OK and return to the Finder. Step 3 Open your hard drive and go to Library: Application Support: GarageBand. Drag the Apple Loops folder from the GarageBand folder into any visible portion of GarageBand’s Loop browser. GarageBand will dutifully re-create its loop index, based on the current location and contents of that Loops folder. Step 4 If you’ve installed the Jam Pack, drag its folder (also in Library: Application Support: GarageBand) into the Loop browser, too. The next time you lay down a track that's not quite perfect, don't delete the track until you've tried some of or all the following techniques. Punching in and out to replace part of a track If you make a mistake http://www.dummies.com/consumer-electronics/fixing-flubs-and-faux-pas-in-garageband/ when you record a track, you can sometimes fix the mistake by re-recording the part with the mistake. In recording parlance, this is called punching in and punching out. When you punch in and out in GarageBand, you choose which part you re-record by using the Cycle Region. When you turn on the Cycle Region, the playhead loops back to the beginning of the Cycle Region every time it reaches the end. So the region plays (or records) continually until you click the Stop button or press the spacebar. To punch in and out on a track, follow these steps: 1. With your song open, click the Cycle button (located at the bottom of the screen -- the one with the curved arrows, next to the double-headed arrows) or press C to activate the Cycle Region. A yellow ruler appears under the beat ruler showing the Cycle Region, as shown in Figure 1. Figure 1: Click the Cycle button to turn on the Cycle Region. The first time you use the C

What you need: * An MP3 to split * Garageband * iTunes I'm using Garageband '09 Version 5.1, but this probably works in a similar fashion with other versions as well. I don't see any reason to keep paying for updates of this program... Step 1: Step 1: Setting UpShow All Items Open Garageband. If Garageband opens up a previous project, simply select File>New. Otherwise, choose New Project and Voice when prompted. Save the file as the song title as this is what the song will be called when you are ready to export. Once the project loads, hide the track information bar on the right by clicking the the blue "i" in the bottom right corner. Having extra space to work with makes this easier in my opinion. Click on the music note at the bottom center and change it to the clock. This will make it easier to find where you need to split the track by changing the ruler above to show time. Now drag and drop your MP3 into the blank area underneath the ruler and vocal tracks. If your track does not start at 00:00 on the ruler, simply click and drag to move the track to the left. Garageband should now look like the first photo for this step.« PreviousNext »View All Steps DownloadAdvertisement

file editor. Just drag and drop a sound file into GarageBand to edit it. You can adjust the volume, cut out parts of the sound and apply filters. You can then export as a standard sound file or a compressed file. Video Transcript (Click to Expand) On today's episode let's use GarageBand to edit some audio. Some I am often asked how to edit a piece of audio on the Mac. Is their a program someone can use? Well GarageBand is a great audio editor. You don't have to use all the music stuff in the special features. You can just use it to edit an audio file. Let's do that right now. So here I have created a basic GarageBand file. I just chose the piano default project. Now I am going to delete the only file that is there the Grand Piano by selecting by clicking Here and hitting Command Delete. So it gives me a completely empty GarageBand project. I've got an audio file here that I am going to drag into it. Now it can almost be any format in this case it is AIF format could be wav could be an mp3.I'm going to drag it and drop it into this area and it will import the audio right there. I can playback the sound by pressing the play button at the bottom. I can position in the sound by dragging the marker up here and I can see the red line going as well so I can go to any point in the sound. Like here and can start playing. Now I can view the wav form closer by double clicking on it and it will open the Audio Region editor down here. You can see as I drag the cursor here at the top I can see the red line here and I can also se it down here. Here I can see a much better view of the audio wave form. Now if I want to split the track in some location say the edit out some sound at the beginning. Let's say I want to edit out this first piece of sound here. So I want to edit that first bit out right there. So I want to cut it there. So what I want going to do is to go to Edit and Split and this will split it into to regions. You can see I can select the first region or the second region representing the rest. I can simply select this and I can also look over here and in the Audio Region editor and can see the two different sections right there. I can select this right here and I can simply press delete and I can move this over to the left just by d
