May 2014. Posted in Websites Security How to bypass 403 forbidden? When opening web pages, occasionally users come across the '403 Forbidden' error. This means https://www.cybrary.it/forums/topic/how-to-bypass-error-403-forbidden/ that, while the web server received the request, the folder or document is one that the server does not share. It is possible to trick some servers into showing the content by accessing the file in an unexpected way. Basically, you insert a period and a slash (./) between the final slash https://khalil-shreateh.com/khalil.shtml/index.php/websites/websites-security/126-bypass-web-server-error-403-forbidden.html?showall=1 of the URL and the file name. In effect, this simply emphasizes that the file is in the same directory, but the web server mistakenly interprets this as a sign that the user is accessing an open directory. Failed reading files by using shell to read files on a server , mostly with error 403 forbidden , this video will show you a method for how to bypass this 403 forbidden and read the /etc/passwd file . In the most general case, the resource the client tried to access might be forbidden using a path based Access Control List. In this video, Dedalo from http://seguridadblanca.org shows how to bypass us an interesting way to bypass a 403 error. The main idea is to fool the access controller into believing that a different resource was requested, by using "./" in the path of the request. A detailed explanation of why this works is available here. Thanks go out to Dedalo (camilo.galdos [] security-expert [] se) for submitting this video to us. Is it possible to bypass a 403 error on the web? Let me explain a bit in detail. On a web server the IIS has set up a directory for a project we are such that it is not accessable to the outside. So if you type the path to that directory in a web browser, the web browser will say that it is not accessable and it will throw a 403 error. Now, here is the problem. Some files are placed there with some secure information. A programmer on our team has made a big deal about this and the fact that the files are placed on a server that is accessalbe to the outside world. On the other hand, I think this is not such a big deal since if a user on the outside tried to go to that directory, his web browser will throw the 403 error. But other people on the team say that a hacker can still somehow access it. So that leads me here and to my question. Is it possible to bypass a 403 error on the web? I say no. Some network guys at work say maybe. I am not asking how to do it. I am only asking if it is really possible. security internet-explorer http-status-code-403 share|improve this question asked Nov 26 '13 at 8:50 xarzu 2,4221665103 Yes, it is possible. It's possible that an attacker is able to guess credentials or exploit a bug in the web site or in IIS itself to gain access. What the likelihood is depends on how well secured the site is. Particularly, how good the defense in depth is (firewalls, IDS, IPS and patching strategies all play a part). –Steve Nov 26 '13 at 8:59 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up v
