Error Bars Started how to calculate uncertainty in chemistry by tournedos, April 14, 2008 tournedos VIP 43 posts Posted April 14, 2008 I've found error bars extremely difficult, can someone explain the process to me? Sounds confusing? Try drawing it. For example, if
Standard Deviation
you have 4.5 grams of something, and the uncertainty is +/- 0.5 grams, then you would make a point at 5.0 and a point at 4.0. Simply connect those points in one line, and you have the uncertainty bars for that specific point. Remember to make the ends of the bar obvious with little dashes (I instead of l). Sorry I really suck at explaining something graphical with text. You'll graph the average amounts, but you need to show the maximum and minimum value you got for that particular value. Ex. {24,25,26} The average of that group is 25, so you'll graph 25. Then, you'll have to graph the error bars. The top bar will go

In order to provide a clear and concise set of data, a specific system of units is used across all sciences. This system is called the International System of Units how to calculate (SI from the French "Système International d'unités"). The SI system is composed of seven fundamental units: Figure 1.2.1 - The fundamental SI units Quantity Unit name Unit symbol mass kilogram kg time second s length meter m temperature kelvin K Electric current ampere A Amount of substance mole mol Luminous intensity candela cd Note that the last unit, candela, is not used in the IB diploma program.1.2.2 Distinguish between fundamental and derived units and give examples of derived units. In order to express certain quantities we combine the SI base units to form new ones. For example, if we wanted to express a quantity of speed which is distance/time we write m/s (or, more correctly m s-1). For some quantities, we combine the same unit twice or more, for example, to measure area which is length x width we write m2. Certain combinations or SI units can be rather long and hard to read, for this reason, some of these combinations have been given a new unit
