For the client's computer, you'll want to redirect to an error page with an appropriate error message, perhaps including the exception message and stack trace if you want. On the server, you'll probably want to do some logging, either to the event log or to a log file. try { .... } catch (Exception ex) { this.Session["exceptionMessage"] = ex.Message; Response.Redirect( "ErrorDisplay.aspx" ); log.Write( ex.Message + ex.StackTrace ); } Note that the "log" above would have to be implemented by you, perhaps using log4net or some other logging utility. share|improve this answer edited Mar 16 '09 at 18:49 answered Mar 16 '09 at 18:25 tvanfosson 351k65571700 Upvoted for saying what I was trying to say. –Bobby Cannon Mar 16 '09 at 18:28 @tvanfosson - It is not that they cannot display message box on server side or client side. Can I call something from the C# code behind that will display a message box to the user? Example usage of this: I have a button that loads a http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9720143/asp-net-web-application-message-box file in the code behind. When the file is loaded or if there is an error I would like to popup a message to the user stating the result. It would be set to the message you wish to display. –Gage Mar 25 '13 at 20:02 @Gage When the message box opens following the event being triggered, the user is presented with an 'OK' button. Is there anyway to wire up a Response.Redirect("desired/path.aspx"); to this? –JsonStatham Jul 25 '14 at 14:30 When I try this I just get No overload for method 'RegisterStartupScript' takes
