For example, the domain name www.linksys.com will have a DNS server address that is equivalent to 66.161.11.93. Checking the DNS is useful when: • Assigning the computer a static IP address• Checking Internet connectivity• Setting up your gaming console (Xbox® or PlayStation®3)• Setting up a router with a Static IP account There are two (2) ways to check DNS servers: Linksys Smart Wi-Fi RouterClassic Linksys RouterClassic Linksys router To check the DNS servers from a classic Linksys router, follow the steps below: Step 1:Access the router’s web-based setup page. For instructions, click here. If you are using a Mac® computer to access the router's web-based setup page, click here. Step 2: Click Status. Step 3: Take note of DNS 1, 2 and/or 3. These are the DNS server addresses that the router is getting from the modem. To verify if the DNS server addresses appearing on your router are valid, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP). QUICK TIP: Getting valid DNS server addresses is one of the ways to check if your Internet is working. It would take several minutes to start working. I traced it to the router not assigning the DNS servers properly. The router can still assign IP addresses properly, it's just the DNS that isn't being set up properly. Any ideas? Use one DNS server from your provider and and one from somewhere else.
