This error is really frustrating me - I have contacted Steam 3 times, and they aren't replying. Please, if anyone knows how to fix this (Fatal Error: VGUI_Setup failed), I would be eternally grateful. I am longing to play Skyrim (and my other Steam games), but can't so long as this Steam error persists. Thank you in advance. 11-24-2011, 04:17 PM #2 PELUXA1 Join Date: Dec 2010 Reputation: 1555 Posts: 9,827 Try checking this thread... http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=2129571 Otherwise... https://www.google.com/search?q=VGUI_Setup+failed PELUXA1 View Public Profile Search User Find More Posts by PELUXA1 Find Threads by PELUXA1 11-25-2011, 03:37 AM #3 mortenart Guest Posts: n/a Thanks Peluxa. I have seen all the threads on the Steam forums concerning this issue, but none have provided a solution. I've checked every link on google without any joy. I think it is because my dciman32.dll file is corrupted, but without a clean install, I don't know how to fix or replace it. 11-27-2011, 04:19 AM #4 mortenart Guest Posts: n/a bump... 11-28-2011, 05:59 AM #5 mortenart Guest Posts: n/a .....? 11-28-2011, 06:09 AM #6 TeKraken Join Date: Nov 2011 Reputation: 7596 Posts: 7,762 can you not get a non corrupt file from here: I have never used this site so cannot verify if it is ok, I have used it as an example. http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl...shtml?dciman32 Also I'm not sure what effect just copying a new DLL file will do. Edit: Can you not do a repair? VGUI_Setup failed Published: 12 April 2014, by Paul Findon (Steam under Windows 7, Boot http://blog.macplaza.co.uk/2014/04/steam-fatal-error-vgui_setup-failed/ Camp.) It must have been sometime in 2013 when my son first told me that Steam was broken. Every time he tried to run it it https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/1br9ps/fatal_error_vgui_setup_failed/ went through the same update routine before producing the ‘Steam - Fatal Error: VGUI_Setup failed' error message shown below. We tried several things at the time how to but nothing worked, so we left it. Fast forward many months and the desire to buy a new game prompted a new investigation into the issue. Lots of other Steam users on the Net are having the same issue, but none of the solutions that worked for some worked for us. We tried how to fix the following: Re-installing Steam. No good. Removing vgui2_s.dll from the Steam/bin folder. No good. Running steam://flushconfig in a Run window. No good. Searching Steam troubleshooting. No mention of ‘VGUI_Setup failed' error. Our solution (of last resort) In C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam, we found two Steam programs: ‘Steam.exe.old' and the newer ‘Steam.exe'. In C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam, we renamed ‘Steam.exe.old' to ‘Steamold.exe' and double-clicked it. The ‘Updating %appname%' progress window shown below appeared. When it had finished updating, extracting and cleaning up, nothing happened, but the ‘Steamold.exe' was now called ‘Steam.exe_' Then we double-clicked the newer ‘Steam.exe' The updating, extracting and cleaning up routine ran again, as shown below. This time, however, when it had finished, the Steam log in window appeared. We logged in and Steam worked as it should. Success! Hopefully this solution will help other Steam users resolve this annoying issue. Usual disclaimers apply. It worked for us, it may not work for you, there may be a more elegant solutio
