years ago A Last Resort Method to Fix the Xbox 360 E74 Error (The Red Ring of Death) I've come across a few very stubborn Xbox consoles in my day. A previous Null Byte demonstrated how to fix the Xbox with just eight pennies and some electrical tape. But if you've got one of those hell-born boxes that just refuses to be fixed in any way, shape, or form, there is always one last ditch approach. I'm talking about the infamous "towel trick". It works over 90% of the time, from my personal experience. Though, please https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL7RSiWqj1g note: This is only a temporary fix.The towel trick is actually just the general term used for the procedure of cooking your Xbox 360's innards to the point of solder melting. This helps reform solder runs temporarily and allows you to use your console. It usually lasts until the next time you reboot it. WarningsThis is only for people who have tried everything and do not care to http://null-byte.wonderhowto.com/news/last-resort-method-fix-xbox-360-e74-error-the-red-ring-death-0132181/ potentially worsen the damage to their console. Again, I suggest you try this Null Byte before attempting this trick. This could start a fire. Keep an eye on your console. RequirementsTowels to seal the heat vents on the XboxA broken Xbox with RRoD or E74 errors20 minutes of your timeStep 1 Turn the Xbox On and Wrap ItMakes sure all of the cables are plugged into the Xbox correctly and turn the console on.You should be greeted with this lovely light, or a red ring of death on the console (3 red lights). Leave the console on and wrap it in clothing or towels to seal the heat in.Leave the console running for 20-25 minutes. Keep a close eye on it.Step 2 Start Her UpAfter you've run your Xbox for a while with the heat trapped inside, take the towels off and put a load of pressure on the top while it is horizontal. If you push hard enough while it is extremely hot, your Xbox will boot and stay on until it is shutdown. After, it goes back into an E74 error. This is handy to hold you over until you can go out and buy a new one. Che
a console with 1 red light and it worked. I'm out of warranty but I'm waiting to send my console to insurance as they said I may get a new console from them this time. My friend said that his cousin is still playing http://www.xboxachievements.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-104996.html his now, and he done the towel trick at the start of the year. So how long did it last for you? If you done it of course. Pyroman3111-13-2008, 10:56 PMActually the towel trick didn't work for me. At all. Made it http://www.instructables.com/id/Fix-the-Red-Ring-of-Deathwithout-towels/ worse. Jammie66711-13-2008, 11:00 PMi thought the towel trick was only to fix the 3 red lights? 1 red light is either an HDD or DVD drive problem. i've heard lots of different stories about the towel trick, some last a few hours, how to some last a few weeks. haven't heard of it fixing a console for 11 months though TugSafc11-13-2008, 11:12 PMi thought the towel trick was only to fix the 3 red lights? 1 red light is either an HDD or DVD drive problem. i've heard lots of different stories about the towel trick, some last a few hours, some last a few weeks. haven't heard of it fixing a console for 11 months though No the 1 red light, E74 error is a chip inside how to fix the console, and I checked online and saw a video on youtube that someone did it on the E74 error. The laser isn't meant to get as hot as the console. I over heated my E74 console by unplugged the fans from the motherboard and letting it run for a while, it worked for 2 hours and now has E74 again. Poor thing needs reflowing. WingMan80011-14-2008, 12:11 AMokay ive gone through 5 xbox's from RRoD and every other thing that can happen lol but dont touch the xbox for about 2 days with a fan on it when ever you can and it fixed 2 of my last 5 xboxes and they work still so thats what i do :D xXxFailManxXx11-14-2008, 12:26 AMmine only lasted 1 day. :( Then i through it away and got a new one :P TugSafc11-14-2008, 12:59 AMTowel trick is the worst way to over heat your console, you'll damage th
