The system cannot find the file specified up vote 8 down vote favorite I have just downloaded WinEdt and written my first code, but it will not run because I keep getting the following error. I am at a loss as to how to fix this. Error launching Console Application PDFLaTeX ... Depending on your intended use of WinEdt and TeX you may have to install additional software, or missing TeX Components..." –DShahan Jun 27 '13 at 21:03 1 Do you have a TeX distribution installed (MiKTeX or TeX Live)? –karlkoeller Jun 27 '13 at 21:04 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 7 down vote There are three different cases for which these errors may occur in WinEdt. 1. No TeX distribution installed WinEdt is merely an editor, if you want to use TeX you have to download a TeX distribution. See here for more details. 2. No info about the TeX distribution in the system PATH WinEdt can automatically detect the executables of a TeX distribution only if its bin directory is in the system PATH. If you have any problems, go to Options menu -> Execution Modes -> Diagnosis page, and you will see something like: Looking at the "Windows PATH" part of the report, you can see if the bin directory of your distribution has been inserted there. If not, there are two common causes for that: Something has gone wrong when you installed your

I'm not certain why, but last night while at home, I was able to compile my .tex document without a problem and get a .pdf file (if it's relevant, this was in WinEdt 8). When I came into my office today and http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/159121/problem-with-compiling-pdf started working on the .tex file again, I click the PDFTeXify button, and no .pdf file is produced (my office computer has WinEdt 7). In the PDFTeXify compilation report, no errors or warnings are listed, but there aren't any pages output. This is the first time I've had trouble with this, so I'm not sure how to address it. Any information and/or insight would be greatly appreciated! compiling winedt share|improve this question edited Feb 7 '14 at 17:04 karlkoeller 89k7130263 asked Feb 7 '14 at 14:25 Clayton 265210 closed as off-topic by Martin Schröder, Jubobs, Jesse, Gonzalo Medina, Svend Tveskæg Feb 8 '14 at 18:20 This question does not fall within the scope of TeX, LaTeX or related typesetting systems as defined in the help center. If this question can be reworded to fit the rules in the help center, please edit the question. 1 Can you post a MWE? It's nigh impossible to know the problem with nothing to go off of. –Sean Allred Feb 7 '14 at 14:31 @SeanAllred: I think the problem lies in the title. If I reduce the file name to Notes, then the .pdf compiles correctly. Has WinEdt improved their compatibility with spaces in files names? –Clayton Feb 7 '14 at 14:44 That would definitely do it, and apparently they haven't. –Sean Allred Feb 7 '14 at 15:23 @SeanAllred: That is precisely it...perhaps in WinEd
time. Suddenly a problem comes. This does not help a lot (suddenly?). Try to restart your computer and see if the "problem" goes away. Open my documents and texify(or anyting like Latex compiling) them and at first time it works. I have checked that the whole output files appear in my directory. However, after successing the compile fist time, the second action does not work at all. It gives some error message box to say that "Error starting Texify! See WinEdt's Tex Configuration Wizard for detailed diagnosis of your Tex system." Anything about the macro is not working. Texify, LaTex, ..... All of the situations are the same. Very first time is okay for every macro excution, but the second does not work at all. Start the command prompt from WinEdt of from Windows Start menu. Now type the command there: latex yourdocument Does it work? If no, you have a serious problem outside WinEdt. If yes (you still have a problem outside WinEdt) but you can try: Options -> Execution Modes: press Direct (Execution Mode). This is the simplest execution mode. Again you may have to restart WinEdt or your computer and then try again. On a few occasions I had the pleasure to discuss strange problems with users that click on the X box (Alt+F4) in the console to kill compilation if there are too many errors. This is a very bad idea because the application may not have a chance to cleanup and unlock all the files and may not behave properly from there on. If you really have to kill use Ctrl+C and well written applications will respond with proper exit handler.... Anyway, the problem here is not WinEdt macros: they are executed every time. But when WinEdt tries to launch the executable for the second time it refuses to start. Since the problem occurred "suddenly" try to remember anything that might have happened at that point (any update, new software, etc...) and go from there... Choosing Direct Execution Mode may fix the problem but the source is outside WinEdt... Best regards, alex Thread at a glance: Previous Message by Date: Error starting Texify!
