If you have reviewed everything and are still stumped, try the following. Export your banking transactions to Excel and then sort by amount. Then sort the bank reconciliation transactions by amount, and begin comparing this way. Sometimes a different view helps you see the problem. just discovered two errors on my bank statement, and I'd like to know the best way to handle these so I can reconcile the statement properly: 1) A paycheck that I wrote cleared through my bank at $50 more than it was written for. It's very clearly a bank error, and they are falling all over themselves to correct it and send me a receipt... But how do I reconcile the statement? Where can I note this? (And how will I do it next month when the credit shows up on the statement?) 2) This one's my error. A paycheck was calculated by quickbooks to be $202.98...but I wrote the actual check for $202.95 (I don't print checks out of QB, I hand write them) This isn't huge, but what's the right way to clean it up so my statement reconciles and I can move forward? Joe Williams06-09-2007, 02:30 AMFor item 1, I would create a new account "Bank Error" of type Equity and post a journal entry that Credits the bank account anc Debits that equity account. On the reconcile screen, check the Paycheck amd that journal entry. When you get the confermation from the bank that they corrected the account enter another Jouenal entry to Debit the bank account and Credit the "Bank Error" and then when you reconcile the next months statement you can check the "correction" journal entry to match that statement. For item 2, Create a nre Deduction item and change the Liability account to the Payeoll Expense account. Edit the paycheck and ass the new deduction for 0.03 to change the Net of that paycheck. I would not create a new transaction in QuickBooks for any thing below $1.00. Parklaur06-19-2007, 11:30 AMOh okay - so in basic terms, I'm creating a place to remove the $50 and hold it, so the one statment balances, and then I put it back for the next statement? That makes sense, thank you!! Parklaur MRussell08-10-2007, 11:31 AMUsing QuickBook 2006, I paid a bill in the amount of $1,110.00, which cleared the bill in payables as normal. However when reconciling my account this month, the check was deposited and cleared for $1,100.00. My bank said it was the vendor's bank error so won't change it. The vendor wants to leave it as is and me write another check in the amount of $10. I can't seem to edit my original check to read $1,100 which would match the bank statement
