carriage stalled". I've tried everything hp suggests: made sure there's no obstructions, verified that the ink cartridges move back and forth smoothly, re-installed the cartridges, plugged the printer directly into the wall outlet. What else can I try? I'm grateful for any suggestions. Respond to this 0 YMMV but I had the same problem.Since the warranty expired on my printer years ago I decided that opening the printer couldn't make it worse. I found a video on disassembling the PSC1510 which I followed. If your printer internals are like mine, wear gloves, otherwise you will have black fingers for a couple of days. What I found is that the printer must generate a cloud of ink inside the printer while it prints, which deposits on everything. Also the printer uses a transparent ribbon with fine lines printed on it that passes through a photo sensor on the carriage to determine carriage position. Well it was covered in ink. I gently cleaned the ribbon and sensor with alcohol and a soft rag which I immediately dried using another soft rag. Now that the printer can detect the carriage location, the carriage stall error is gone.PS. To clean the photo sensor gently remove the ribbon by pressing in lightly on the right hand side tensioner then unhook the ribbon on the left side. Gently slide the ribbon out from the carriage sensor. Do not scratch the ribbon. The slot in the sensor is very small, I used paper towels and paper strips that I soaked with alcohol to clean it (It took me about 15 minutes) Reverse the procedure to reinstall the ribbon. After reinstalling make sure the ribbon does not scrape on the carriage, it should be smooth operating.Good luck. by ArtieH on Jan 24, 2014 at 7:10am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 HI,If you cartridge problem, open cartridge and censer point clean the cotton cloth soft hand.
