under Mac OS X Snow Leopard and getting the infuriating and useless error message "pstopdffilter/pstocupsraster failed with err number -31000"? I spent a fair while Googling for a solution to this before http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/pstopdffilter-pstocupsraster-failed-with-err-number-31000/td-p/4869759 stumbling across the answer: turn your printer off and back on. That's it. No reinstalling drivers, adding or removing printers or playing with settings - just a good old fashioned power cycle. It's nice to know https://www.stormconsultancy.co.uk/blog/development/tips-tricks/pstopdffilterpstocupsraster-failed-with-err-number-31000/ some things never change :) Hat tip to Walt-O-Matic for the answer. I was printing from Microsoft Office Word, via a networked HP C4480 printer on Windows Server 2008 via an Airport Extreme.

A SL, Feb 27, 2010 #4 Scott Davey Messages: 2 Solution I got the -31000 error just like others in this forum. One suggestion elsewhere was to restart the printer - almost too simple to be true. I looked at my printer and it had an error light, so I restarted it, cleared my printer queue (on the mac side) and then resent the job from windows. This worked for me. Still no idea what -31000 is, but it's probably a OSX/CUPS thing. Tip: when searching google, the minus sign excludes results for the following word. So, you should enclose the error number in quotes like this "-31000" to get the results you're after. Cheers, Scott Scott Davey, Mar 21, 2010 #5 pgs Messages: 1 pstopdffilter/pstocupsraster failed with err number -3100 I had the same problem with the Epson Stylus Pro R800 connected to an iMac under Parallels 5.0.9344 and Win-XP.
PDF file I have been opening the PDF file with Preview and printing from there. Is there any way to print directly from Adobe? Larry H 03-30-2010, 03:12 AM Collin Bl Have been printing pdfs from Preview in Tiger Leopard and Snow Leopard with no problems, so would guess you have a broken linkage or corruption of some sort. Have you tried doing some housework with Onyx and what is this 'psto pdf filter'? pstopdffilter/ where did that come from? Or if you downloaded the pdf in Safari, then try Safari > Reset Safari 03-30-2010, 04:39 AM Larry H Preview in Snow Lepoard prints OK. I am downloading PDF files by using Firefox. The error code is showing up in the printer control panel, the panel is available by clicking on the printer icon on the dock. The printer is an HP 7200. I would like to be able to print from the Adobe Reader by using File>Print as the Preview does not print the exact same thing as the Adobe PDF shows. Larry H 03-30-2010, 07:24 AM chas_m So, just to be sure I understand you, printing in Adobe Reader fails with a program-related error message, but printing in Preview is fine? If that's correct, then the problem cannot be with the printer and must be with Adobe Reader. Check to see if you're up to date; if you are, check the Adobe Reader preferences with special attention to anything having to do with printing; if that doesn't solve the problem I'd suggest uninstalling Adobe Reader thoroughly, then re-downloading it and installing again. 03-30-2010, 10:04 AM deus_ex_machina Adobe Forums: Adobe Reader 9.1.3 Doesn't Print on Mac... 03-30-2010, 01:53 PM Larry H deus_ex_machina, Thanks you for the link to the Adobe forum. I now understand that this problem is probably an Adobe, or possibly an HP problem. The suggested work around to 'print as image' from the 'advanced' button on the print control panel works on my setup. While this is not ideal, at least it will work until Adobe/HP fixes the problem. Larry H PS Last night I updated to OS X 10.6.3 but that did not fix this Adobe printing problem. 10-19-2011, 03:38 PM Lynne Problems printing pdf files on Mac I had the same problem. On the internet, I found an article at the following URL: TidBITS Problem Solving: OpenType PostScript Fonts Troublesome in 10.6.7. It states that this is a problem in Mac OSX 10.6.7 concerning OpenType PostScript fonts. They suggest not using open type postscript fonts but, if you have to, "the only solution appears to be
