The printer was automatically detected in moments and set up took a few seconds. I attempted to print a test page and received a "communication error 5012). Previous attempts to print using the Ubuntu printer set up would also set up the printer with the same results of not being able to print. Error box kept appearing suggesting the printer was not turned on (form of communication error, I suppose). Printer does print test page OK. I did Google search and have found some references to other printers with mention of permissions or setting something up in root. Not sure that anything like this applies. System: OS: Ubuntu 8.10 Processor: AMD 64 Athlon 3200 Memory: 3 GB Printer Networking: Ethernet Printer address: Mfg default 192.0.0.192 (detected by HPLIP) PPD/Driver: HP Laserjet 4100 MFP v.3010.107 Postscript (Recommended) Summary: Printer self test = OK Cat5 cable test = OK HPLIP detects printer = OK Print job successful = NO Thanks in advance! See attached file for "hp-check -t". I have triple boot on my computer. Linux Mint 15 and Ubuntu 13.04 fails with the same problem. However, Windows 8 works fine. Running 'hp-doctor' says: error: 'Photosmart_B110' Printer is either Powered-OFF or Failed to communicate. The printer is powered on, I can print on it from another mobile PC with Windows 8, so it looks like the communication is the problem. issue on 2 differenet Linux desktop-computers. Although all works fine wireless in Win7. Samba is installed and works fine. The problem is the same with or without firewall. All programs https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/262923 are up to date. During Installation with HPLIP 3.15.2 the setup finds the printer on 192.168.2.12 on full amplitude. Only at that moment the printer works. After a while, or after a system restart nothing goes. Even a ping in the terminal says: host unreachable. Altough: the wireless printer, together with other sources, at that moment is visible in the available connectiontable to connect the computer to internet. hp printer Conclusion: in one program the system sees him, in hplip not. Or hplip sees him, but cannot connect? Other situation: -no printer-ping on PC1 & PC2 -I completely do a re-setup in the HP-printer -on PC1 in HP Device manager (HPDM): I removed all old printers Again i installed the HP-wireless printer and send a page to the printer: All works fine. -on PC1 printer-ping=OK -also on hp printer error PC2 printer-ping= now OK -PC2 switch OFF & ON: printer-ping=NOK -PC2 start HPDM: after a while all actions are available, from now on printer-ping=OK Another situation: I put hp-toolbox in the startup-programs. I configured the HPDM to do a refresh every 10 sec for all the printers. Hopefully i did a restart. But no, even after 5 min ping was NOK and there was no actionlist in HPDM for the printer. And all of a sudden, doing again a manual refresh in HPDM: it works ! Question: - What must be done that the system finds this IP-address? - Is there a hp-program that can trigger the discovery of the printers in HPDM? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Results in hp-doctor in the faulty situation: (only ENVY_4500_wireless) hp-doctor HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.15.2) Self Diagnse Utility and Healing Utility ver. 1.0 Copyright (c) 2001-15 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, LP This software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.
