I cannot get the https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/USB-Device-Not-Recognized/td-p/277591 correct driver to install for this printer because during the driver install when it prompts to connect the printer to the USB it will immediately recognize it again as 'Unknown Device' and add it under USB controllers and then the printer driver install does not see the new device and then it cannot continue to install the correct driver. It also does not allow https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/69d349f6-3fd8-4009-bc92-411638c02627/new-usb-printer-recognized-as-unknown-device-under-usb-controllers?forum=itproxpsp fortheUpdate Driver function to install the correct driver either. How can I permanently delete the 'Unknown Device' association with this printer so that the correct printer driver installation process can detect the printer as a new device and install the correct driver? Without the correct driver it also does not install the DOT4 USB printing support so I cannot even add it as an LPT device and then change the port because there are no USB virtual or DOT4 ports available on the computer. Thursday, June 30, 2011 2:01 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote This system had just been reloaded and unfortunately a lot of software was installed after the printer was connected so it is not practical to do a system restore and thenhave to re-install all of the software again. I did try removing unknown device, rebooting, reinstalling and plugging the printer into a different hp printer USB port. I have tried forcing the printer to use a specific driver I choose using device manager, still doesn't work. The error I get is that the file I specified doesn't contain compatible software for my device. The printer detects fine on other systems, with or without using the HP drivers. Thank you kindly for your input. But from VMware, after install the software and then connect the USB cable as well as check-off (enable) the device in the Removable Device menu, Device Manager shows it to be an Unknown USB device. I've done some looking around, some forums on the web seem to indicate this problem has to do with the cable that came with the printer, or that the 2.0 needs to be disabled and set to function as a 1.1 port. I've not yet tried a new cable out, but hopefully that will work so nothing in the bios or in the device manager has to be disabled... But I was wondering if anybody has any other ideas about what migh
