Respond to this 0 Gently clean the contacts in the carriage, and on the cartridges with a paper towel or coffee filter moistened with water. It could be a bad carriage board or cable. by Stephen on Sep 26, 2005 at 5:47pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 cartridge bad, you replace new cartridge by unknown on Nov 22, 2006 at 11:07pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 I received http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/HP-750xi-not-recognizing-the-color-cartridge/td-p/187657 the messege "Incorrect black ink cartridge installed" on my HP PSC 750. After reading numerous messages, I did try to clean the contacts but it did not help. Somewhere in one of the messages was a comment about the contacts being movable. I checked mine, and they are movable. Also noticed that one of the contacts did not stick out as far as the others. I gently teased that http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/32208 contact with a probe until it came out into proper allignment with the rest of the contacts. The message went away and the printer now works. So - if cleaning does not work - check contact allignment. by ldholman on Jun 4, 2007 at 9:52am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 One important fact, the PSC 750 uses #15 & #78 cartridges, and the carriage board has spring loaded pins. The PSC 950 carriage board has contacts on it and the cartridges are pushed up against them, but they are a totally different style contact, (no springs). by Stephen on Jun 4, 2007 at 4:01pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Had the same problem. Had changed black cartridge #15 as indicated but all the time I needed to change the #78 cartridge. All is working great. Message was telling me "error: incorrect cartridge installed". by cocoon on Feb 12, 2016 at 12:15pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Had the same problem. printers and the "incorrect cartridge" error. Many of them discuss software issues. I can assure you, my problem is not a software issue. My HP PSC 750xi is http://www.motherboardpoint.com/threads/hp-psc-750xi-incorrect-black-cartridge-error.48944/ a standalone unit. It is not even connected to a computer. However, after http://www.justanswer.com/printers/4q6lb-hp-psc-750-printer-uses-hp-15-black-hp-78-color-print.html installing a new black cartridge, I am getting the "Incorrect black cartridge" error. I have tried everything to fix it except to buy another new cartridge which I plan to do tomorrow. The black cartridge that was originally in there did not seem that old. It was printing fine and then suddenly said the black hp psc ink was low. That was it. One page of light print and it was gone. I used the cleaning utility and that did not help. I aligned the cartridges and that did not help. I bought a new black cartridge and that did not help. I cleaned the new cartridge and contacts and that did not help. So my error is definitely not software related. Any suggestions would be hp psc 750 helpful since HP's suggestions did not fix the problem. Thanks. Two things to check - first make sure you are using a #15 cartridge, not the similar-looking #45. You should also clean the electrical contacts (not the nozzles) as shown at the following: http://www.hp.com/cposupport/printers/support_doc/bpa02060.html Regards, Bob Headrick, not speaking for my employer HP Bob Headrick, Dec 14, 2003 #2 Advertisements =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Corn=E9_Beerse?= Guest Steve Lockridge wrote: > I've read a lot of the posts concerning HP printers and the "incorrect > cartridge" error.
