First my system specs: Powercolor Radeon 9800 SE AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Asus A7N8X motherboard WindowsXP os It tends to freeze a lot while playing games (like many here are having the same problems!). To get to the point, I thought that updating the driver may help solve this problem. After downloading the driver from this url http://www2.ati.com/drivers/wxp-w2k-catalyst-7-91-030625a-010027c-efg.exe and attempting to install (after deleting display drivers provided on my cd with my card) i get this error when trying to install INF Error. Video Driver Not Found What can I do about this? I searched the ATi website http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/3659.html which basicly said POWERED BY ATI products are manufactured using ATI components but by another manufacturer. These products are distinguished by the POWERED BY ATI logo on the product packaging. ATI software installers on ATI Installation CDs, as well as those posted on the ATI website for "BUILT BY ATI" products are NOT meant to work with POWERED BY ATI products. but the link i used to download the driver was from the powercolor web

He can't recall doing anything. So it goes. http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/inf-error-vga-driver-missing-installing-ati-catalyst-drivers.55154/ I think "whatever", downloaded the latest Catalyst drivers, and try to install it, only to get the message "INF Error, Video Driver Not Found" and then "Try to set up your adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup". I tried googling for info (apparently it's a common-ish issue), but I never found anything that worked. I tried uninstalling anything ATI and then installing, to no avail. I tried uninstalling the error-listed VGA adapter from the Device Manager and then running install which didn't work. Rebooting after that also didn't work (it popped up with "New hardware found" after the reboot, but it couldn't find the proper drivers). After an unedifying series of adventures I got to http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=45&kind=1 which has several drivers for my mobo. I first downloaded (obviously) the VGA driver, and tried to run setup. Unfortunately, after preparing the install, an Error message pops up saying "The system cannot detect the device, please confirm that the device is configured proper

Downloaded the catalyst drivers from inf file ATI's site, went to install them, and I get the 'inf error video driver not found' error. so I think maybe I got a corrupt driver package, so I redownloaded it. Same problem. Using the standard vga win xp driver, so nothing is installed prior to install. So I tried the drivers that came on the cd. They loaded fine. WTF is going on here? Any ideas on how to get the inf error video good drivers to load? #1 Dill, Jul 29, 2002 Operandi Diamond Member Joined: Oct 9, 1999 Messages: 5,508 Likes Received: 0 Built by ATi or 3d party/OEM board? #2 Operandi, Jul 29, 2002 Dill Senior member Joined: Mar 2, 2000 Messages: 598 Likes Received: 0 its an OEM board...are they really different enough that the ATI driver won't install correctly? #3 Dill, Jul 30, 2002 rbV5 Lifer Joined: Dec 10, 2000 Messages: 12,632 Likes Received: 0 its an OEM board...are they really different enough that the ATI driver won't install correctly?Click to expand... Alternately you can try Omega/Plutonium's modded drivers, tweaked for more performance and quality in games, they also don?t care if your card is OEM, or ATi retail. I'm not currently using them on my machine, but I have tried several releases and they seem fast and stable, + I know others that use them over official ATi's. The latest version XK1.1.18 is based off of a leaked beta but there are slightly older versions based off of of
