I have read somewhere on the web that it may be possible to disable the chip recognition of the printer and then the cartridges can be used for a long time. Now ink cartridge when I power the printer up it shows that there are no ink cartridges, even though there are. The display shows the following message, " Ink cartridge error. Replace ink cartridge "I have tried this but the same message reappears when booting up. Submitted: 4 years ago. Category:Printers Share this conversation Expert: Robert Preston replied4 years ago. Robert Preston : Hello,Welcome to JustAnswer. My name isXXXXX and I will be assisting you ink cartridge error with your problem today. Most likely this is a print head issue. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. To attempt to resolve it, do the following:(1) Open the printer and wait for the carriage to slide over(2) Remove the ink cartridges from the print head.(3) Use cotton swabs dipped in hot water to thoroughly clean the print head and each ink cartridge.(4) Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab.(5) Once finished, allow to dry and replace the cartridges(6) Try to print something nowYou can also try using an Epson nozzle cleaning kit like this:http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kits/epson/K89If that does not work then you have one of two possibilities:(1) One of the ink cartridges is defective and causing the error(2) If it's definitely not that, then the print head will need to be replaced. Thanks and please click the green ACCEPT button if you are satisfied with my answer. Thanks,RobCustomer: I did wipe away excess ink build up on the print head earlier, I believe there maybe a defective o ring.Robert Preston : Unlikely. Cartridge detection would be caused by either a defective cartridge or printhead. The cartridge is detected purely based off of the contact between the printhead and the cartridge. We purchased some Piezoflush recently with the intent to use it to clean one of our printers. We have been having some nozzle problems with our Stylus Pro 11880 & 3850 units. We've had both units for a few years now, all running OEM Epson ink. We purchased the 11880 6 years ago and the 3850 we have is at least 3 years old. Our problem is this – we have some severely blocked heads on both units. The 11880 is our main concern as this is our production unit and is used pretty much daily for our work. About 2 years ago the 11880 had a full head replacement and was working fine up until about 2 months ago where the Matte black nozzles started playing up after an ink change from Photo Black. It first started with two nozzles out of the Matte Black not working, then gradually built up to about 4 – all affected nozzles next to each other missing on the first row of lines on the Nozzle Check pattern. We tried various power cleaning methods including pairs cleanings to clear them but to no avail – they just won’t budge. The same has happened with the 3850, except the nozzles on this machine are far more severely clogged than the 11880. The Magenta and Light coloured inks in particular has been affected quite badly, to the point only about half the nozzles are firing, and none
