We typically use non genuine carts, ordered an Epson brand to troubleshoot and to no avail. The machine is of course out of warranty, spoke with Epson support and one told me it was the cart or the sensor on the printer and another refused to give me any helpful information. They both refused to give me a service manual becaus

I was alarmed at first but discovered that hitting the "pause" button on the printer would bypass this message. THe printer would then report "non-genuine cartridge" or something like that but then recognize it fine and behave very normally . . . except that the printer will actually recognize a matte black cartridge with a matte black ink cartridge chip or a photo black cartridge with a photo black chip without having to manually remove the chips and swap them or do the wasteful ink change method. I guess it also reports non-genuine cartridge on every cartridge whenever I make a cartridge change now even though all cartridges that I use are genuine. I measured the mass of empty 220mL C, LC, LM, LK, M, MK and K cartridges from before this side effect surfaced and ink cartridge error a cartridge that emptied after the side effect surfaced. Masses between before and after varied by no more than 3g on a Mettler digital scale accurate to within 1/1000 of a g (from my day job . . . the only way I can pay for my expensive hobby j/k). So yeah . . . side effect alert but it's not terribly negative. But I'm watching it to see if it degenerates.-- hide signature -- http://klyment.com/serendipity/ - photography-oriented journal Reply Reply with quote Complain ForumParentFirstPreviousNextFlat view Post (hide subjects) Posted by When Epson 7800/9800 sneaky black ink change method Klyment Tan Apr 20, 2006 Beat you to it!!!!! (Read 7018 times) Stephen Girimont Jr. Member Offline Posts: 80 Bad ink cartridge and the Epson 7890? « on: April 30, 2011, 02:27:36 PM » I have a brand new Light Light Black 150ml catridge for my 7890 that the printer simply does not want to recognize. I insert it correctly, the printer thinks about it, and then acts as if there is no cartridge installed. Could the chip be bad?Any tips for how to get around this? There are no local suppliers of this ink so I'm stuck with not being able to print for days if there isn't a solution other than replacing it. An almost full 220ml. cartridge stop being recognized by the printer after several prints over a few weeks. One day, the printer panel read "wrong cartridge.". Luckily I still had at hand the old "empty" cartridge. The printer accepted it. So it was the cartridge, not the printer.I took it to my local dealer for replacement. They said the had to send it to Epson for evaluation. After several weeks I got an email from Epson saying they were sending a replacement free of charge. I'm expecting it this week.EduardoQuote from: Stephen Girimont on April 30, 2011, 02:27:36 PMI have a brand new Light Light Black 150ml catridge for my 7890 that the printer simply does not want to recognize.
