This behavior occurs because Microsoft Windows Vista uses the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) feature

to help prevent damage from viruses and from other security threats. Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a set of hardware and software technologies that perform additional checks on memory to help prevent malicious code from running on a system. DEP is enforced by hardware and by software. The primary benefit of DEP is to help prevent code execution from data pages. Typically, code is not executed from the default heap and the stack. Hardware-enforced DEP detects code that is running from these locations and raises an exception when execution occurs. Software-enforced DEP can help prevent malicious code from taking advantage of exception-handling mechanisms in Windows. DEP works alone or with compatible microprocessors to mark some memory locations as "non-executable." If a program tries to run code from a protected location, DEP closes the program and notifies you, whether the code is malicious or not. To solve the problem, please perform the following instructions. Adjust DEP settings 1. Click on Start, right-click on Computer, and then click on Properties. 2. On the Advanced system settings and then click on Advanced tab. 3. Click on

Internet Explorer 9 DEP crashes New 30 Aug 2011 #1 marcus1870 View Profile View Forum Posts Newbie Join Date : Aug 2011 Posts : 1 vista x64 home premium Local Time: 20:03 Internet Explorer 9 DEP crashes I recently have been experiencing the dreaded DEP error problems. I have Vista x64 Home Premium. http://www.vistax64.com/browsers-mail/292287-internet-explorer-9-dep-crashes.html When I open up internet options, select advanced, i see that the DEP option is checked but grayed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HU_Sv8cOifU out so I am unable to uncheck it. The problem now is so pervasive that almost every internet page I go to will give me the error when I attempt to go further along that page. For example, typing in account # and password, then "Go", it crashes and does not let me go further. I attempted to navigate along a website, going through options to purchase an item and every time I internet explorer click "Next" it crashes, giving me the DEP messages. I am at my wit's end. This almost, almost makes me want to get an Apple product! I tried going via the administrator route and got to the advanced section but couldn't figure out how to disable the DEP option. I attempted to go back a week on the system restore but still no luck so it must have happened even before. Also, I am now unable to turn on Windows Defender now ( i had disabled it earlier because of some internet explorer enable issues) but now it gives me an error when I try to do it. Any ideas?
