The sites are recognized as stated in the policy. Nevertheless, we get an error internet explorer zonemapping policy message in the event viewer: Error 1085: The Group Policy client-side extension Internet Explorer Zonemapping failed to execute. Please look for any errors reported earlier by that extension. an independent consultant is the new stuff learned while on projects. I learned some new information about Site to Zone Mapping I wanted to share with you. [Testing updates are at the bottom https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/a8756a27-b562-42ad-8782-87d284e6bcfb/internet-zonemapping-problem?forum=winserverGP of the article. Article last updated 5-Oct-2016.] A project I worked on recently had users complaining about how long it took to logon and launch their published applications. As is my practice, the first thing I start doing is looking in the event logs. One of this issues I found was this mysterious message in the System event log: Windows failed to apply the Internet Explorer http://carlwebster.com/troubleshooting-microsoft-group-policy-site-to-zone-mapping/ Zonemapping settings OK, what group policy did this come from? Is this really a problem? Was this slowing down the logon or application launch? I did a quick PowerShell script to gather all the 1085 EventIDs from the System event log from their hundreds of XenApp 6.5 servers. What I found was there were many hundreds of these events every day on every XenApp server. Looking in the details, I saw this was causing an issue with logons and application launches. The shortest delay I found was: Figure 1 The longest delay I found was: Figure 2 Most of the delays were in the 5 to 6 second range. Now to find out what group policy was causing the issue. The cached copies of profiles are deleted so I couldn’t run a Resultant Set of Policy on a user’s name or the server. Since I am an outsider with limited account access and limited visibility into Active Directory, I turned to the lab on my laptop. I built a test group policy with a few Site to Zone Mapping entries and saw that the settings were saved in a file called seczones.inf. Next step wa
this site Contact Search How to configuring IE Site Zone mapping using group policy without locking out the user Posted by Alan Burchill on 17 July 2012, 11:48 am If you saw http://www.grouppolicy.biz/2012/07/how-to-configuring-ie-site-zone-mapping-using-group-policy-without-locking-out-the-user/ my tweet or Darren Mar-Elia blog post you may be glad to know https://241931348f64b1d1.wordpress.com/2016/05/04/problem-group-policy-error-on-internet-explorer-zonemapping/ that the legacy Internet Explorer Maintenance section of group policy has now been removed in Windows 8. Unfortunately this means that you can now longer natively configured the IE Site to Zone mapping using native group policy setting without still allowing the user to customise the URL list. So below I will internet explorer show you how you can still use Group Policy to configure the IE Zone via group policy while still allowing the user the ability to add additional sites. Put simply we are going to setup the IE Zone registry keys manually using Group Policy Preferences… However it's a little complicated as the URL that is in the Site to Zone mapping is actually stored as the name internet explorer zonemapping of the key. Finally the protocol is the registry value with a number that assigns it to the corresponding zone. In the example we use we will first look at the currently site that the users has setup in the trusted site list (www.bing.com). As you can see below the zone is store at HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains then the domain is stored as a key "Bing.com" then "www". Within the "www" key the protocol (http and/or https) is the value name with the value representing what zone it should be a member. Note: We are just using bing.com as an example as you would never add at search engine as a trusted site. Now we will add the additional site www.google.com.au also to the trusted sites list using group policy. Step 1. Edit a Group Policy that is targeted to the users that you want the IE Zones applied. Step 2. Create a new Group Policy Preferences Registry Extension then select the "HKEY_CURRENT_USERS" Hive and then type "Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\google.com.au\www" in the Key path. Then enter the Value name of "HTTP" and selected the Value Type as "REG_DWORD" and set the value data as "00000002". And you'r
7 clients: Windows failed to apply the Internet Explorer Zonemapping settings. Internet Explorer Zonemapping settings might have its own log file. Please click on the "More information" link. You can try to troubleshoot it following these steps. On Details Tap you can found the error code: In may case is 87 (The parameter is incorrect). If you check on "Event Viewer\Applications and Services Logs\Microsoft\Windows\Group Policy\Operational" You will find the error with Event-ID 7016: Completed Internet Explorer Zonemapping Extension Processing in 78 milliseconds. Check the previous Event-ID 4016 that report the GPO that is causing the issue: Checking the GPO, I found an invalid entry on "Site to Zone Assignment List". To check if an entry is fine or not, you can use a machine that is not managed by GPO trying to add the entry on "Trusted Sites" directly from IE. It's interesting to note checking the values you found on HKCU\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMapKey ..that also the not valid entry is there.
