with add-ons disabled, I've tried resetting all IE settings. It happened on IE10 and still happens after reverting to 9. I'm on Windows 7 at work and, unfortunately, can't use a superior browser. Doing a little bit of research on some forum threads indicates that you need to either disable hardware accelerated rendering in Internet Explorer 9, or disable stereoscopic 3D in the NVidia drivers. I'm guessing that in your instance, it's definitely something to do with hardware acceleration. You can quickly disable here to test: robotsneedhugs2 2013-04-12 12:55:16 UTC #4 Disabling hardware rendering did it. 3D was already disabled. Thank you. Is there a way to mark this as solved? Or is that unnecessary? geek 2013-04-12 13:00:18 UTC #5 Glad we could help Basically we've been just editing the titles to say solved, as there's not a built in feature for that. Smartphones Fun Stuff Search site How to Fix Internet Explorer has Encountered a Problem and Needs to Close Have you ever been browsing the Internet using IE happily until all of a sudden you get this horrid "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem http://www.online-tech-tips.com/internet-explorer-tips/how-to-fix-internet-explorer-has-encountered-a-problem-and-needs-to-close/ and needs to close" error message, after which IE completely shuts down and you lose all of your tabs along with any forms you might have been filling out? Now that I use Chrome religiously, this has not happened to me even once, https://www.webbie.org.uk/scriptingErrors.htm but it happened all the time with Internet Explorer. So for those poor souls still using older versions of IE, here's a quick list of steps you can take to try and fix the underlying problem. The cause of this error internet explorer can be any number of things, so you may have to try a few different methods before the problem is fixed. If you click on the link to see the data the error report contains, you may see something like this: Error sign AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer. 7.0.5730.11 ModName: unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 61eb77e0 So what can you do if you get this error? Try each one of the following steps and see if the problem goes away. Method 1 Open IE, go to Tools, everytime i close Internet Options or click on the Settings gear icon at the top right and then clear out the temporary Internet files. Under Browsing History, click the Delete button and then check Temporary Internet files and website files. In case you downloaded an executable file that is causing the problem, this will remove it. Method 2 In some versions of IE, script debugging can be the cause for this issue. You can try disabling script debugging by going to Internet Options again, clicking on the Advanced tab and then checking the Disable Script Debugging (Internet Explorer) and Disable Script Debugging (Other) boxes. Method 3 Run anti-spyware and anti-virus software on the computer. Download MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and Spybot and run each to remove any malware. Both program have free versions and that's all you need. Also, download CCleaner and HiJackThis and run both applications. Remove unwanted entries that you see when you run HiJackThis (you'll have to read the docs to know what to remove). Method 4 Go to Start, Run and then type in MSCONFIG. Click on the Startup tab and uncheck all items and then re-start the computer. This disables all startup programs from running. If you still get the error, go ahead and turn them back on one by one and see at which problem the problem comes back. This is called performing a clean boot. Method 5 Disable Smarts Tags in Internet Explorer by going to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab, and then clearing the Enable Smart Tags check box. Method 6 Install
unless you are a web developer, you just don't care about these messages and don't want them to appear. Turning them off won't hurt the operation of any program, so here is how to turn off scripting error messages in Internet Explorer. These messages say things like "Errors on this webpage might cause it to work incorrectly." The first thing to try is turning off these messages in Internet Explorer: Open Internet Explorer Open the Tools menu (Alt and T) Select the Internet Options item (O key) The Internet Options dialog has many tabs. You need the Advanced tab. Press Control and Tab until you get to the Advanced Tab (that's six presses for Internet Explorer 8) You should now be in a list, starting with Accessibility as the first item in Internet Explorer 8. This has the scripting options you want to change. Cursor down to "Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer)" and press Space until it is on. Cursor down to "Disable script debugging (Other)" and press Space until it is on. Cursor down to "Display a notification about every script error" and press Space until it is off. Press the Return key to close the Internet Options dialog. You should now have turned off the scripting errors. Not worked? Here are some other things you can try: Update Internet Explorer. You should be on the latest Internet Explorer, it's safer and better. You can get it from Windows Update. Start Internet Explorer, Alt and T for the Tools menu, then cursor down to Windows Update. Change your antivirus program. These cause no end of trouble. Set your Internet Explorer Security settings to Default. You do this again in the Internet Explorer Tools menu, Internet Options, Security tab, and click Default Level. Delete your Internet Explorer temporary files and cookies and history. Internet Options, General tab. This will mean you'll have to re-enter your username and password in places where you've saved it, so make sure you know them all before you try this. Still no good?
