Join them; it only takes a minute: Sign up IE 8 install on Win Server 2003 (Xeon): iesetup.exe is valid but for other machine type up vote 0 down vote favorite I was trying to install IE 8 on a internet explorer Win Server 2003 SP2 on a Xeon machine. I went to Microsoft download site and got this file (for Windows Server 2003 64-bit) IE8-WindowsServer2003-x64-ENU.exe But during installation I got an error of "The image file update\iesetup.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine" For completeness, I then tried download the other file (for Windows Server 2003 32-bit) IE8-WindowsServer2003-x86-ENU.exe And this one gave me an error message of "... is not a valid Win32 internet explorer 8 application" Any idea? internet-explorer-8 installation share|improve this question asked Jan 24 '12 at 21:52 leeyuiwah 86127 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote Install this version from the link above. it should solve the issue. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20335 Also check your os base. Internet Explorer 7 is not supported on this operating system ... " or " ... Internet Explorer 8 is not supported on this operating system ... ". are their any possibility i can installer newer version of IE in my PC? please help actually, what i'm trying to figure-out was that the IE6 has "no add tab-option" but rather only "open a new window" (my gush). cheers! Dec 8, 2010 #4 submarenuhon TS Rookie Topic Starter Hello JasonWinTeam sorry it took me a long time to answer or get back on this issue. but a big thanks really for taking time to share some inputs any way, I'm using my OS which is Win Server 2003 SE 32-bit as an initial stage to learned about Active Directory, as well, Domain Controller actually, I was able to installed IE9 which it fairly functions until last week when my OS got into trouble. it hunged-up and Safe Mode, as well, run using Last Know Good Configuration doesn't workout so I run System Recovery or restore using the same cd installer I used years back. then both Mozilla Forefox and IE9 got issues which is very problematic on my part. the Mozilla Forefox won't anymore popup and IE9 went back to it's IE6 version I'm only using now Google Chrome as my browser which I'm not too familiar with in all it's functionality. hope I can be assisted again on this predic
