Favorites in Windows Vista and Windows 7 After reading the post Folder Redirection for Favorites on the SameMachineat the IE Team blog, I relocated my Favorites folder to a different drive. After the relocation, when I tried to add a URL to Favorites, I received the following error:Unable to create ‘Title':Unspecified errorThere were many posts in the Windows Vista newsgroups about this problem, and here is the thread containing the original solution from MS-MVP Jimmy Brush. The solution is to set the integrity level (to low) for the relocated Favorites folder. This article has a detailed write-up, and also provides a script which can automate the setting for you. Use one of http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie8-windows_7/ie8-creating-favorites-unable-to-create/d4756e5a-18e2-4534-b4d0-dbf4c4a78239 the two methods below:Method 1Download fix_fav_il.vbs and save to Desktop. Double-click the file to run it. Click Continue when you see the User Account Control elevation prompt. The script will open an elevated Command Prompt window and fix the integrity level setting automatically. Once done, you should now see this message:processed file: favoritesSuccessfully processed 1 files; Failed processing 0 filesType EXIT to close the Command Prompt window.Method 21. http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/unspecified-error-when-adding-a-link-to-favorites-in-windows-vista/ Click Start, type shell:favorites and press ENTER. The Favorites folder of your user account will open. Copy the full path shown in the Address Bar.2. Open an elevated Command Prompt. To do so, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.3. Type the following command:icacls

I can remove already existing internet explorer sites from the Favorites bar without any problems. It was working before but I can't quite pinpoint the moment when it stopped working. The current situation is this: When I click the "Star with the green arrow" (aka Add to favorites bar) button then nothing at all happens - no new bookmark, no errors. When I open the "Favorites" menu, click "Add to favorites", select Create in: Favorites Bar and click Add then I get this error: Unable to create 'example.com': Unspecified error How could internet explorer 8 I fix this? I also tried with Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) - the same problem. bookmarks internet-explorer-8 share|improve this question edited Dec 18 '15 at 9:56 Hennes 51.1k776121 asked Jan 18 '11 at 15:13 Siim K 4,96053157 1 Have you tried dragging a link from the URL bar to the favorites bar? –Moab Jan 18 '11 at 18:47 @Moab: Tried - it works! Nice workaround though the problem still bugs me. If you add this as an aswer I'll +1 it. –Siim K Jan 18 '11 at 19:23 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted A workaround would be to drag a shortcut from the URL bar to the Favorites bar. (this is how I have always done it, just too easy) You could also try an IE8 reset. Read carefully before doing it, you can lose some IE data in the process. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 If i was the conspiracy theory type, I would say MS did it on purpose when trying to link to Google. ;-) . share|improve this answer answered Jan 18 '11 at 20:24 Moab 46.2k776129 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. 19, 2008 by codeonly I have used IE 8 beta 2 for sometime, recently, this pop up window stop me to create any bookmark on IE, I was troubled and confused for sometime without a solution. I stuck with this error for few weeks and give up the page I want to bookmark, until one day, I decided no longer to take this IE error any longer. Open a new Google's Chrome browser to save my bookmark with. Sadly, this can't be called a solution. or a "workaround"… One day, out of blue, I find a blog posted by "MBC Computer Solution Ltd." located in Toronto, Canada, which offered solution for similar problem for IE 7. So I think I should give a try on IE 8. After some reading, its a security problem….Yes, when you have a security problem, you think about the "troublesome" Vista first, then add on the beta version of IE 8…. the bottom highlighted area is IE 8's security setting area, Notice the Protected Mode is set to "ON". This is the IE 8's default setting.double click on it, it will bring out the Internet Security window. OK, You might think a simple check it "OFF" might work. I tried that, doesn't work. (Vista! remember ?) Ok, so I followed steps on the blog since so many get IE 7 repaired… section copy and pasted from mbccs blog: ----------------------------------------- Choose Start -> Run Type "cmd" (without the quotes) and press OK Navigate to your user folder. By default, this is c:\users\Username. In my case: cd /d c:\users\steven Run icacls: icacls Favorites /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low ----------------------------------------- Doesn't work for me again. I got message saying "process failed. can't find file." Yes, cause I moved the fav fold to another partition E drive, along with Documents folder and others…( was stupid enough to think 20 GB in C will give enough space for Vista :( some learning experience from Vista….) go to my E drive typed the same command, still not working. !@#!@!@!!! last resort, Restore Default Location for the Fav folder. To do that: 1. Double click your folder named with your [user name] in desktop, mine is "danny". 2. right click on "Favorites" icon on the right side panel. Select "Properties". which brings up "Favorites Properties" window. 3. Select the "Location" tab. ( yes, if you did move your folders to another location like I did, you should been here before). 4. Click the "Restore Default". ok… press OK. to confirm…so your Favorites folder back to the Vista's "Default" location. this time , it worked ! ( I actually bookmark Google.com right after that..to test it…, yes, I bookmar
