Windows 7 64Bit and Windows 7 32Bit machine having the same problem. Edited by Desktop Support Engineer Wednesday, October 09, 2013 2:43 PM Wednesday, October 09, 2013 2:42 PM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote maybe you should uninstall/reinstall IE 8 also. @ Andy Since this is W7 can he uninstall IE8 in any (designed) way? E.g. we are always told that unchecking Internet Explorer 8 in Windows Features just hidesthe iexplore.exe stub and any of its shortcuts. But doing that grinds away doing something that suggests much more is being done. What is that? Does it change the list of packages (or do anything else significant)in %Windir%\servicing or WinSxS? Should that something be checked as a diagnostic? I recently became aware of dism's Disable-Feature possibility. What would this do as an alternative? Is there any repair (or diagnostic) possibility from it? AIUI the command would be: dism.exe /online /Disable-Feature:Internet-Explorer-Optional-amd64 (for example) but don't know if this is a "Windows Foundation Package". How do we tell? I guess the fact that it responds to a Get-FeatureInfo request without a PackageName parameter implies that it is?

I would appreciate any help on how to resolve this problem. Here is the sequence I followed: (0) Login into an administrator account (1) Uninstall IE9 (2) Reboot (3) Run Windows Update & install critical updates that were listed (4) Reboot (5) Run Windows Update & install IE9 optional update (6) IE9 downloads fine (Note: When I tried to redo this step (see #9 below), Windows Update recognized that IE9 had been previously downloaded & did not try to download again.) (7) Windows Update begins install. After a few minutes, receive the following message: Code 3715 Windows Update encountered an unknown error (8) Reboot (9) Redo steps 5-8 3 times - problem not resolved (10) Try to install IE9 by hand rather than using Windows Update. Download from microsoft.com the IE9 install package (11) Run the install package. After

Solved Internet Explorer 9 Won't Install On Windows 7 Posted on 2012-06-13 Windows 7 Web Browsers Windows OS 1 Verified Solution 4 Comments 2,774 Views Last Modified: 2012-06-24 We have a newly deployed Windows 7 64 bit Dell machine. It is less than a month old and in very good shape. We were having trouble with SilverLight and pop ups in IE9 so we removed it (via Add/Remove) and rebooted. IE8 was now installed. Perfect. We have tried to reinstall IE9 via Windows Update or the stand alone installed (less than a 1MB) and get errors. When I do it via Windows Update, the update fails with the error 3715. When I do the stand alone installer, it seems to work fine and will go through installing and restarting programs and then I get the error is didn't complete sucessfully. What can I do to clean up this system and get IE9 back on it? Or is it safe to stick with IE8 and be lazy? 0 Question by:gta2011 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 17 Best Solution byLior Karasenti Try to delete your IE temp files and reset IE8 to defaults You can try to install it on clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 or try this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2409098#m6totry Go to Solution 4 Comments LVL 17 Overall: Level 17 Windows 7 6 Windows OS 4 Web Browsers 2 Message Accepted Solution by:Lior Karasenti2012-0
