It gives me "SCRIPT1014: Invalid character" for each js-file which I've included in script-tags like this for instance: This generates the following error: SCRIPT1014: Invalid character jquery-1.9.1.min.js, line 1 character 1 If I then click the error to view the file in ie developer tools it looks like this: ?? I?%&/m?{J?J??t??`$ؐ@??????iG#)?*??eVe]f@?흼??{???{???;?N'????\fdl??J?ɞ!????~|?"???? etc I'd except this to be a common problem (Or don't people ever view locally stored webpages in ie?) but I didn't find much when searching, and what I found didn't help. How to get around this this? javascript internet-explorer local share|improve this question edited Feb 12 '13 at 14:02 Cerbrus 35.4k66094 asked Feb 12 '13 at 13:58 Clox 1,05331737 1 I would try to re-download the file and replace the original and see if it helps. –epascarello Feb 12 '13 at 14:00 What does the jquery-1.9.1.min.js file look like if you view it in, say, Notepad? –Lee Taylor Feb 12 '13 at 14:03 I would guess it's a character encoding issue. –SDC Feb 12 '13 at 1
You can target relevant areas of the site and show ads based on geographical location of the user if you wish. Starts at just $1 per CPM or $0.10 per CPC. It happens with all versions of our app and no one else is getting this error. I've tried all the suggestions I've found so far on the web with one exception: I've not turned off script debugging because, as a developer, I of course *have* to have that internet explorer error on. It doesn't seem to cause a problem except for the harm it's doing to my sanity! It started in the middle of the day while doing a lot of start-stop web debugging with VS2008 and ASP/VBScript. Does anyone have a suggestion of how to either resolve or at least begin to isolate this? Thanks in advance. Make sure you have not used the single quote which is on the Tilde key (top left of keyboard) instead of the single quote on the double quote key (next to Enter key). In some editors, those two single quotes look exactly alike, but the interpreter sees they are different. 0Votes Share Flag Collapse - Script not found by carl87gt · 7 years ago In reply to The infamous IE runtime e ... This happens only in IE and not firefox and it only happens when a script isn't found and script debugging is turned on (both must be true). So say you have a script called "myScript.js" and you have:< script type="text/javascript" src="myScript.js"> script>no problem so far . . . but change it
probably the worst browser for web development. Or maybe I'm too used to Firefox. Let me give you just a simple example, that can drive you mad. Have you ever encountered the below error?
Line: 2 Char: 1 Error: Invalid character Code: 0 URL: ...
I did. So I googled a little bit to see what could be the problem and I come over this article. Of course, that wasn't the problem. Finally, I realized myself: one of the referenced JavaScript files was missing. I know that this is my mistake, but I'm totally amazed about the usefulness of the IE error messages. It is a missing file, not an invalid character. Not to mention, that the URL is always the main one, even though the error occurred in one of the referenced JavaScript files and the line reported is not the actual line where the error occurred, but increased by 1. But this is already common knowledge. That's one of the reasons I always use Firefox for web development, try to stick to the standards and only in the end, test the solution on Internet Explorer too. And there is no decent JavaScript debugger for IE. And … I also wrote a small HTML, for you to see what I'm talking about. Later update: This was tested on IE6. In IE8 works as expected. Hope this helps. JFR Adrian January 29, 2009 at 10:36 am Reply Actually I tried it, but it's not by far the same experience as with Venkman in Firefox. And if I throw in the game, Web Developer Toolbar, HttpFox, JSView, User Agent Switcher, then Firefox is totally winning. At least for me. JFR January 29, 2009 at 10:41 am Reply Well. I'm not sure to understand. Is it a comparison between firefox and IE ? In this case for usre Firefox wins. Or are you trying to find a useful tool to debug under IE specifically ? In this case Companion.JS gives detailled information about the js error with possible stack trace, which is much more useful than the standa
