On a Win ME system, when I start Internet Explorer, I get a message "lexplore has caused error in kernel32.dll", and Internel Explorer internet explorer shuts down. I tried the following: -Updated IE to IE6 Update 1. Problem persists. -Ran SpyBot S&D and AVG Anti-Virus, both with latest definitions. Found and removed viruses. Problem persists. -Tried searching for lexplore - can't find it. My impresession is that lexplore is a virus, but I'm not sure, and I can't find internet explorer error it or remove it. Am I right? Is there a way to get rid of it? Also, I want to do a Windows Update on the system, but can't do so because Internet Explorer isn't working. Is there a way to do a Windows Update *without* using Internet explorer (I have other Windows ME systems that are working). Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Advertisement Sjado Thread Starter Joined: Nov 26, 2005 Messages: 8 First of all Happy New year to all! This error has been posted here before and Rollin' Rog has given me some pointers but to no avail. The problem that a friend of mine is facing is the following: While she's surfing the net and a link opens a new window, the new window opens but the moment she closes this new created window, IE crashes which results in the following error in the eventlog (dutch Windows XP SP2): Vastgelopen toepassing: iexplore.exe, versie: 6.0.2900.2180, vastgelopen module: kernel32.dll, versie: 5.1.2600.2180, vastgelopen op: 0x0001eb33. This is the exact same as the english error: Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x0001eb33. I've tried numerous things. Nothing seems to work. The last solution Rollin' Rog gave me (looking for the context handlers) didn't help. The only contexthandlers she had were made by Norman (Antivirus) and the Microsoft ones. I'm not sure the problem is with the rightclicking therefore the solution should probably be found somewhere else. She's had this problem for quite sometime now (almost a year if not more). I think that installing and using FireFox would be a solution, however I like to see if I can resolve this problem.
