I've made quite a few changes and now I'm getting syntax errors in IE, but all is fine in Firefox. Obviously I have a trailing comma somewhere but I can't see it. IE's error message is less than helpful, not even telling me which JS file has the error. Is there a syntax checker for Javascript that will inform me of such errors in more detail? javascript debugging internet-explorer share|improve this question asked Feb 17 '09 at 23:33 Steve M 5,385124062 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote accepted http://www.jslint.com/ will catch those comma and semicolon problems. The new debugging tools are a far cry from Firebug, but they should tell you exactly what the problem is in this case. share|improve this answer answered Feb 18 '09 at 2:42 Chase Seibert 10.4k43851 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. Example: var some_object = { valid : "property", one : "comma too much ---> ", }; This code works fine in FireFox, Chrome and Node.JS but fails in IE because of the trailing comma. The integrated http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6524413/javascript-syntax-check-for-internet-explorer debugger of IE is rarely a help since it doesn't produce useful errors/warnings for large web applications as we have (lots of JavaScript files combined together summing up to 50-100 k lines of code). JSLint doesn't help as it reports a huge amount of other warnings or stops at some meaningless error. One idea could be using eval() directly within IE and catch SyntaxError exceptions but I can't do this in an automated way (ie. on a command line). Unfortunately Node.JS doesn't bother about trailing commas. No Linux / Windows tool around that can do basic JavaScript syntax checking for a file? javascript internet-explorer syntax-checking share|improve this question edited Dec 11 '13 at 0:25 Todd Smith 10.5k103969 asked Jun 29 '11 at 16:56 Udo G 4,26652246 closed as off-topic by bluefeet♦ Jan 6 '15 at 13:34 This question appears to be off-topic.
