Although she can get Internet connection, she is unable to get IE 6 (or Chrome) to work and continues getting this error:c:\windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm when attempting to get on any website. I've uninstalled some add-ons that got onto her computer, and not sure what else to do. Thank you for any help you can provide! I run XP & IE 6 which has been fine until yesterday, now each time I try to use explorer this message keeps coming up. I can access the internet through other programs and my e-mail is working fine. I have installed and run Spybot, Adaware, CCleaner and just completed a hijack this report. (the results are saved and available for anyone to see). I also run Norton, and have a fairly secure firewall on the router. We run a small business and have 2 computers networked through a router

I was getting it in IE 6 & decided to upgrade to IE 7 to see if it'd be corrected, but no. I also went to the MS knowledge base & tried just about everything there. As I was registering .dll files into the registry I came across this error message "mshtml.dll was loaded, but the DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found". My LAN internet explorer shdoclc.dll settings are fine & have no prob w/Firefox or my mail client. I've also cleaned all of the cache, history, objects, etc. Any other info needed to resolve this issue, please don't hesitate to ask. My 2 cents. This is a list of my security products installed on my machines. From http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/154209.html it sounds like that was a bug in IE7 also so upgrading to it may not help. Personally I would uninstall IE7 Beta until you get IE6 fixed and then you can try it. war1 will probably be able to help you

My main computer uses Windows 98. I can not use that computer to access the internet anymore. Here's what happened and what I've tried to do to remedy the situation:I was downloading a program onto my Win98 computer and chose to overwrite some files which I did not understand (dumb). I started having problems (not the shdoclc problem), so I ran a free registry repair program (also dumb since I don't understand this stuff very well). I *think* that's when I started getting the above error. SO ... I backed up all my files and ran my HP Pavilion System Recovery disk (the only disks I have). I reformatted and recovered all programs. The disk seemed to have some problems -- i.e. I needed to hit "retry" several times and "abort" one time to get it to run and finish its task. But the recovery seemed to be complete. But then when I tried to connect, I got the same message. So I tried to take a copy of the shdoclc file from another computer and replace that file on my damaged Win98 computer, but I couldn't replace it because "windows [was] using the specified file".I have no idea where to go from here. Should I buy a Win98 disk? Is there any way to reroute around this problem?Any help would be VERY MUCH appreciated. Thanks,Fred 4 answers Last reply May 10, 2005 More about shdoclc dnserror AnonymousMay 9, 2005, 11:14 PM Archived from groups: alt.windows98,microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion,microsoft.public.win98.performance (More info?)1.
