adding to Favorites List IE8 'Unspecified Error' when adding to Favorites List New 29 Sep 2010 #1 Jakeman97 View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Member Join Date : Feb 2009 Florida Posts : 143 Vista Ultimate SP2 x64 Local Time: 22:39 IE8 'Unspecified Error' when adding to Favorites List Hi all, Some time ago I backed up my Favorites List on a CD. Yesterday I dragged and dropped this folder to C:\'My Name'/Favorites and it replaced the one that was there. Then I discovered I was unable to add urls to my Internet Explorer 8 Favorites List, I get "unspecified error". After much useless fooling around I was unable to recover the original Favorites folder. To http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c02973529 make matters worse I then went to C: Programs (86) and opened the Internet Explorer folder. I don't have a clue as to what the heck I did but now I have an 'extra' Internet Explorer Folder that looks like this "Internet Explorer (86) (86)" with nothing in it but a folder and 1 'Favorites'. To top it off I also have the very same folder in 'Internet Explorer (86)' I tried to delete the Internet Explorer http://www.vistax64.com/browsers-mail/283470-ie8-unspecified-error-when-adding-favorites-list.html that appears as "Internet Explorer (86) (86)" but it keeps coming back. I even took Ownership and that didn't help. I don't even know if that second folder is even supposed to be there. Is there any way to get this thing back to normal? 19, 2008 by codeonly I have used IE 8 beta 2 for sometime, recently, this pop up window stop me to create any bookmark on IE, I was troubled and confused for sometime without https://codeonly.wordpress.com/2008/11/19/ie-8-unable-to-create-bookmark-unspecified-error-occur/ a solution. I stuck with this error for few weeks and give up the http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/395680/favorites-will-not-work/ page I want to bookmark, until one day, I decided no longer to take this IE error any longer. Open a new Google's Chrome browser to save my bookmark with. Sadly, this can't be called a solution. or a "workaround"… One day, out of blue, I find a blog posted by "MBC Computer Solution Ltd." internet explorer located in Toronto, Canada, which offered solution for similar problem for IE 7. So I think I should give a try on IE 8. After some reading, its a security problem….Yes, when you have a security problem, you think about the "troublesome" Vista first, then add on the beta version of IE 8…. the bottom highlighted area is IE 8's security setting area, Notice the Protected Mode is set to internet explorer unspecified "ON". This is the IE 8's default setting.double click on it, it will bring out the Internet Security window. OK, You might think a simple check it "OFF" might work. I tried that, doesn't work. (Vista! remember ?) Ok, so I followed steps on the blog since so many get IE 7 repaired… section copy and pasted from mbccs blog: ----------------------------------------- Choose Start -> Run Type "cmd" (without the quotes) and press OK Navigate to your user folder. By default, this is c:\users\Username. In my case: cd /d c:\users\steven Run icacls: icacls Favorites /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low ----------------------------------------- Doesn't work for me again. I got message saying "process failed. can't find file." Yes, cause I moved the fav fold to another partition E drive, along with Documents folder and others…( was stupid enough to think 20 GB in C will give enough space for Vista :( some learning experience from Vista….) go to my E drive typed the same command, still not working. !@#!@!@!!! last resort, Restore Default Location for the Fav folder. To do that: 1. Double click your folder named with your [user name] in desktop, mine is "danny". 2. right click on "Favorites" icon on the right side panel. Select "Properties". which br

Running Win7. Running Explorer 8. Suddenly a few months ago the Favorites stopped working. It says "unable to create XXX. Unspecified error." There were two answers that I uncovered having to do with 1) the shell and 2) the integrity level. Could not get either fix to worklHere is something I found in Microsoft forum having to do with the Shell in IE8. Did not fix the problem:"Check your computer's Shell:Favorites location. If Shell:Favorites gets set to a location that is deleted/moved/doesn't exist then problems like the ones you are experiencing can oc
