XML gets parsed succesfully and data retrieved is valid. But Internet Explorer 9 the line above fails with the following exception: com.google.gwt.xml.client.impl.DOMParseException: Failed to parse: Detected You currently have javascript disabled. Error parsing XML with IE, but not with other browsers Started by jfields026, Feb 10 2011 12:10 PM Please log in to reply 2 replies to this topic #1 jfields026 jfields026 Newbie Members 3 posts Posted 10 February 2011 - 12:10 PM I've written a page that uses javascript to poll a php page which sends a soap request to the national weather service. The php page http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6327821/xml-parsing-works-with-chrome-and-firefox-but-fails-on-internet-explorer then receives a response and relays that back to the original webpage via xml. The webpage then parses the xml and update the webpage with the new information. (The Website is http://www.orbitalsp...Test/Trips.html with the error showing up when I click "Show Points") My page works great in Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and Safari but I cannot get it to work in Internet http://w3schools.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=36324 Explorer (tried IE7 and IE8). I believe it has something to do with how IE is retrieving or parsing the XML. When I have some IE error checking turned on I get an "Invalid at the top level of the document" error. Also, IE is also showing errors on certain lines that ultimately relate to empty strings which should be full and are full when using other browsers. Instead of including 1000 lines of code I am including the URL to the site and you can "View Source". I've also turned on some alerts that display the returned xml and one location where I try to parse. The parsing location begins at line 515 of the html with an example shown below. All other pages that I'll test will internet explorer work fine, but I'll come across a page or two that will give this very helpful error. I've had this happen when something wasn't 'just right' with my database or something else wasn't right, but it's not ever something that's super obvious. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get a useful error message that might actually help in debugging the issue. I did actually track down the issue internet explorer xml - a referenced UserControl had changed locations in the web.config, but the 'live' web.config hadn't been updated (good thing I had added some logging to the application). Thanks for any suggestions! Michael De Lorenzo ------------------------------- www.delorenzodesign.com Reply jeff@zina.co... All-Star 70248 Points 10442 Posts Re: What causes this? XML Parsing Error: no element found Jun 30, 2006 11:59 AM|delorenzodesign|LINK I was hopeful that there would be a way to catch these types of errors during development as I've only been encountering them once moving applications to another environment, but I agree about your statement about trapping and dealing. In this book, we will develop a complete web application. Although we will be using various third-party libraries and tools to aid in development, we will be developing the application from start to finish. The focus of this book is on Web 2. 0, a catchphrase that has been in use for a few years now and is typically used to refer to web sites or web applications that have particular char- teristics. Some of these characteristics include the following: • Correctly using HTML/XHTML, CSS, and other standards • Using Ajax (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) to provide a responsive application without requiring astr = xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("location");alert("Number of locations " + str.length);
In every browser except IE I get a number. Also, in every browser but IE I get the XML displayed (just hit enter on the XML display to get it to go away), IE only shows the words "Array" without any XML.
