On my system the sun version is here C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\client\jvm.dll share|improve this answer answered Jun 10 '09 at 7:08 Simon 423615 I am going to award this answer to Simon here but I will note that Oracle as issued a statement that this is not a supported solution and is use at your own risk. Oracle Support for JInitiator 1.3 will end on July 31, 2009. They are pushing a new native Sun JRE plug-in that works with standard versions of Java. –Xap Jun 19 '09 at 2:29 add a comment| up vote 3 down vote Replacing the jvm.dll did not work for me. The proper way to switch to Sun's Java VM which worked for me is by changing this baseHTMLjinitiator=basejini.htm to this baseHTMLjinitiator=basejpi.htm in the formsweb.cfg file. Jinitiator Problem: when running form modules using Internet Explorer and JInitiator 1.3.1.x, the browser window opens and crashes immediately before the applet starts. When using Mozilla Firefox, there's no problem at all. Several notes on Metalink about this: 602001.1, 430359.1, 550301.1 The issue does not occur when using Sun JRE

version 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6. This issue is first logged as JInitiator Bug oracle jinitiator 1.3.1.22 for windows 7 5643502 - INTERNET EXPLORER WITH WINDOWS LIVE TOOLBAR PLUG-IN CRASHES, but based on Sun Bug 4741238, the bug occurs oracle forms not opening in ie 11 in JRE version 1.3 (JInitiator is based on JRE 1.3) and the bug is fixed in JRE versions 1.4 and higher. Solution according the notes To avoid the crash, (1) Use http://stackoverflow.com/questions/893767/oracle-forms-applications-in-internet-explorer-8-using-jinitator Sun JRE 1.4 and higher - OR - (2) Uninstall Windows Live Toolbar (or other software what you suspect is the cause) - OR - (3) Disable the toolbar's associated Add-ons as the following: 1. Open Internet Explorer 2. From the menu open Tools -> Manage Add-ons -> Enable or Disable Add-ons 3. Select the following Add-ons and disable each of them by clicking http://www.jobacle.nl/?p=223 the "Disable" button - Windows Live Sign-In Helper - Windows Live Toolbar - Windows Live Toolbar Helper - Windows Messenger 4. Restart Internet Explorer - OR - (4) Disable 3rd-party browser extensions as follows: - From the browser menu Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced - Uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions" First I chose for the last option, the policy was changed by the Windows system administrators for all the clients in the network, and done.. But there were (un)expected side-affects, like a particular SSO-application could'nt be reached anymore. People didn't appreciate this 😉 So finally I went for a solution which isn't in the note, but spread around the internet: Copy the jvm.dll from Your (directory) C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\client (jre1.4.2 does work as well..) to (directory) C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.22\bin\hotspot Easy to distribute for the system-administrators and I've got enough time to go for a more structured approach, upgrading for example…. Unfortunately, Oracle has stopped supporting Jinitiator on IE8. In my own company, this meant a critical application for customer support could not be used with Windows 7, which supplies IE8 as default. Of course there alternatives such as Windows XP mode or streaming with a seamless Citrix window, but after a while I found a better solution. oracle forms not In my scenario I’m using Oracle Jinitiator 1.3.1.22. Just install Jinitiator as you normally would do. Now the solution is to replace the jvm.dll file with another version. These versions can be found in the Java RE installations in the ‘client’ folder: C:\Program Files\Java\jre\bin\client Copy the jvm.dll file from this folder to the following folder: 32-bit: C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.22\bin\hotspot\ 64-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.22\bin\hotspot\ For me the jvm.dll from Java version 1.5.0 update 12 worked perfectly. It can be downloaded here. Check if your application works in IE8. If you’re using an 64-bit machine, be aware to start the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer. If it’s still not working, try another jvm.dll version. Just check the Java archive at Oracle for other Java RE versions. Once your application is working, it's worth the effort of figuring out.
