it only takes a minute: Sign up ORA 01114 - IO Error writing block to file up vote 1 down vote favorite I am working on some compelex sql queries in Oracle 11g, which have aggregation functions like SUM and joins multiple tables and views. I am getting the IO Error and Tablespace insufficient space error when I try to ora-01114 io error writing block to file (block # ) sap query large span of data. Error no.1 is ORA-01114: IO Error writing block to file(block #) ORA-01114: IO Error writing block to file 201(block #1343798) ORA-27063: number of bytes read/written is incorrect Error no.2 Sometimes Database Running out of Temporary Space when loaddate > 12 months Is this an Oracle specific error that my DBA has to solve or something is wrong with my queries? How would I fine tune the performance of the queries to avoid insufficient tablespace prompt? In case your TEMP tablespace have two tempfile temp01.dbf and temp02.dbf, first file is on the disk with less space than the maxsize of the file and second file on the disk with more space then the maxsize. Now you are creating an index and it is using temp01.dbf to as tempspace then once the file have filled the db disk then it will give above error, but it will not start using temp02.dbf. Incase you query have started using temp02.dbf, because this file can grow and it have enough space on dbdisk and once this file is completely used then it will start using temp01.dbf until it have filled the db disk and hit the error.
