Io Error 00008001
i/o error: Status = 00008001 Discussion in 'Hardware' started by rsd0562, Mar 24, 2006. rsd0562 Private E-2 To Whom It May Concern, I am trying to install a brand new Seagate 160 GB Hard Drive and Windows XP or W2000. I have no operating system on the computer. My original 30 gig drive died. I have a Compaq 5WV280, 900 MHz AMD Athlon Processor w/ 384 Ram. I am trying to install a brand new Seagate 160 GB Hard Drive and Windows XP or W2000. I have a Promise Technology Inc. Ultra133TX2 Controller card. My brother in law said I need this card in order to recognize the 160 gig. Only saw 130 originally. Message says 149 gig right at Boot up. I set the jumper to CS and Master and get the same error. Not sure if there is a Bios Update. Went to Compaq website and had Rom Update for Windows XP from 11/30/2001. The machine originally had Windows ME, then I changed it to W2000. Now I'm trying to put on XP or 2000. Could that be the problem? Can I update the Bios w/out an O/S being installed? Here are the details. Trying to Install Windows XP: I am getting the Windows Set Up Blue screen w/ the message at the bottom that says "Set Up is Starting Windows". And it hangs at this point. I have waited 10-15 minutes up to 5 hours to over night and still does not start Windows? I have no operating system on the computer. The Controller card is installed w/ the Ribbon into IDE1 and going directly to the Hard Drive. I am getting the same results with the Hard Drive set to 'Cable Select' or 'Master'. This is the sequence of events: I boot up w/ Windows XP Cd-Rom in Drive. As soon as I boot up I see "Detecting'" message I see d0 and something about "lba and detecting 149 gig" I see d1, d2, d3 "Not Detected" Screen is Black. After about 1 minute message says "Set Up is inspecting your hardware configuration" Screen is still black, After about 5 minutes of blank black screen I get Blue screen "Windows Set Up" is displayed up top left. I hit F6 as per Controller Card instruction manual to install scsi or raid driver Insert Controller Card Floppy Disk - Ultra100 TX2/133 TX2, Ver V1.01 20031009 Choose "WinXP Promise Ultra 133 TX2 Controller" from list Screen is still Blue w/ "Windows Set Up" is displayed up top left. and Loads a few files Then Bottom of screen displays "Set Up is Starting Windows" and hangs here?? If I boot up and do NOT hit F6 I get the following message "Set U
