prevented my family and I from watching TV last night. We are shown the error code RDK-03004. We had called Comcast support phone line and after waiting for 45 min's got no help at all. They just wanted to schedule a tech to come out to our comcast static ip address house (good trick I must say to get someone on site and charge you) I engaged the comcast ip address lookup support chat (transcript will follow) and search the online and found several people having this type of issue. I've even located a post that gave instruction on what

So I did some digging of my own to locate how to get into the X1's Diagnostics area To enter the The X1 Platform Diagnostics Page: Hold down Exit button for 5 seconds Press the down arrow twice Push the number 2 button That brings up diagnostics screen. Use arrows to navigate. Exit button to exit. After checking the diagnostics of my box comcast wireless router ip address I noticed the all seemed operational, until I noticed the unit no longer was assigned an IP Address . I mentioned this to support and they still had me troubleshoot, but I was pleased that they did admit that the issue I am facing seem to be on their end and not mine. There are faster and better DNS services out there. By Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols for Networking | November 29, 2010 http://www.zdnet.com/article/fixing-dns-woes-for-comcast-users-and-everyone-else/ -- 18:44 GMT (10:44 PST) | Topic: Networking Cyber-Monday, what a great day for Comcast’s DNS (Domain Name System) service to fail. This isn’t the first, or last, time that an ISP’s DNS has failed. Even when the commercial ISPs’ DNS are working flawlessly, they don’t tend to work that well. Fortunately, there are better alternatives. My two favorites are OpenDNS and Google Public DNS. While OpenDNS offers additional paid services, such as Web content filtering, both offer free and faster DNS support. To use OpenDNS’ DNS service, you can set up a free Basic Account, but to just get the benefit of its DNS, all you need do is set up your local router and/or PCs to use 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 for their DNS settings. With Google Public DNS, you do the same thing except you use these DNS Internet Protocol addresses: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. How you do this depends on your network devices and your PCs’ operating systems. Here are the basics for the major desktop operating systems. Setting Microsoft Windows 7 DNS Settings 1. Go the Control Panel. 2. Click Network and Internet, then Network and Sharing Center, and click Change adapter settings. 3. Select the connection for which you want to configure Google Public DNS. To change the settings for an Ethernet connection, right-click Local Area Connection, a

» Advice » How to Fix a Roku that Won't Connect to the Internet By Scott April 26, 2013 171 Comments Read More → How to Fix a Roku that Won't Connect to the Internet Congratulations! You've finally made the leap into the world of streaming media players. Personally I think the Roku is super slick. But I had this experience the other day, when trying to set one up for a friend of mine, that almost put the kibosh on our Bomb Girls. (yes, that's right, I said Bomb Girls.) Basically, we got the new Roku all connected. We fired it up and started the setup process. The Roku recognized her Wi-Fi, and once we put the password in, it was able to connect to the local network. However, when it tried to connect to the Internet (essentially the outside world), the process failed. Red light! I've set up three Rokus in three different houses. I've never encountered this problem before. My immediate suspicion was that my friend's router was somehow denying Roku's connection to the Internet. Before taking the plunge into full-on troubleshooting, I wanted to make sure that Cox hadn't set up the router, or her service, in a way that might prevent the use of a streaming player. So we called Cox. After about 45 minutes with the rep, who was really nice by the way, the Roku was still FUBAR. However, right after hanging up with Cox I stumbled across what turned out to be the root cause of the problem. The quick fix: make sure your router's DNS settings are properly set to an External IP address. If DNS1 or DNS2 show up as internal IPs such as: 192.168.1.x, then your Roku won't connect to the Internet. Here is the detailed fix:
Login to your router. (typically this is done through an internal ip address like 192.168.1.100). You enter this IP address directly into your web browser same as you would a website. **NOTE some peopl
