Mac OS X It looks to be a problem with the DHCP server, which mistakenly assigns the same IP address to two devices, but don't blame your router quite yet. For whatever reason it seems that another

Mac, or the iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone is often the culprit. Apparently these iOS devices like to maintain the same IP address and will attempt to force themselves onto the same IP that they had previously been assigned, which can lead to the error message. 1: The easiest solution is to just reset the router, but that can be a pain depending on your access to the router itself. 2: If resetting two computers same ip address the router is a no go, you can also try torenew your DHCP lease in Mac OS X either through the command line (as the linked article shows) or through the Network settings System Preference panels as described here. 3: The other option is to manually set an IP address to a static IP and have the IP range be far enough apart so that the devices do not conflict. Why does this error show up at all? I assume this is just a bug with how iOS interacts with certain routers DHCP management, it happen to Apple's own Airport too so perhaps that will spur a patch sooner than later, but by no means is this limited to Apple routers, and you can encounter it on any wi-fi network (and even some wired networks too). In the meantime, try one of the fixes, they should get your Mac back online in no time. Warning about Spoofed MAC addresses Another possibility (although much less likely) is that someone has managed to spoof your MAC address and IP and is attempting to gain access to your network. I say this is much less likely because assuming you have some reasonable wireless security precautions in place this is very unlikely, there simply aren't that many people out there

They are both using the latest OSX and are both set to use another device on the network is using your computer's ip address what does this mean DHCP assigned by my Virgin cable router. I've searched and seen other responses to this question - however what is strange here, is that the address reported in the popup window is NOT the address that http://osxdaily.com/2010/09/19/another-device-on-the-network-is-using-your-computers-ip-address/ either computer was assigned at the time (the first time, I thought it was odd, and I had an ipad handy and used fing to search my network to see what device had just used that address and I didn't see anything). This time - I was on my iMac and happed to have a terminal open, so I did a quick ifconfig - and my ip address was not the one indicated https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6523739?start=0&tstart=0 in the message (it was saying 192.168.0.8) and my address was 192.168.0.12. In fact I think that the other day it was complaining about the same .0.8 address. This seems very odd to me? Is there something I can check?I do have 2 devices that have a hard coded ip-address (but they are right at the beginning of the range, and in fact I have instructed the router to skip those addresses and just dish out ip's from .0.3 onwards). All other devices use DHCP.My wifi network isn't open - so I'm a bit at a loss as to what might be causing this? Is it possible someone is trying an attack? Or is there some OSX bug?Tim iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4) Posted on Sep 8, 2014 9:29 AM I have this question too Close Q: Another device on the network is using your IP address - but its not my IP address All replies Helpful answers by macta, macta Sep 8, 2014 9:34 AM in response to macta Level 1 (0 points) Sep 8, 2014 9:34 AM in response to macta Just to show this - I took a screenshot and put the device network settings underneath the error (ifconfig showed the same .0.12 address). We have an iPhone and a Macbook but as far as a remember this problem occurred for a brief time when we were without an iPhone. In any case, I had a look at this post which suggests the problem is a cause of the iPhone and Macbook trying to use the same address. I changed the IP address via System Preferences > Network > TCP/IP > configure IPv4 Using DHCP with manual address to 11.11.11.11. I then switched back to Using DHCP and clicked 'Renew DHCP Lease'. When I checked the IP address again it changed to 192.168.1.11. It works now but I wonder if this is a permanent fix or will this problem keep occurring? Update: The problem persists, but his time without the error message which would leads me to believe that there another problem in addition to the "Another device is using your ip address" problem. network wifi ip share|improve this question edited Dec 9 '13 at 8:00 asked Dec 8 '13 at 20:11 nicholaschris 123117 What fixed your initial problem? –daniel Azuelos Dec 9 '13 at 15:20 Changing the ip address as explained above fixed the problem of "another device is using your ip address". But the router continues to stop sending wifi signal quite often. When this occurs, the TV still works as does accessing the router with a LAN cable. –nicholaschris Dec 9 '13 at 15:30 So your problem isn't really fixed, is that right? What make you think your wireless router stops sending signal? –daniel Azuelos Dec 9 '13 at 15:52 Correct, the real problem is not fixed. The wifi connection will be lost and then the wifi network will not be in the list of available wif
