I'm really new to this -- can't seem to fix my internet connection! I have a Dell truemobile 2300 router, two laptops, and two desktop computers attached to it, with a DSL model. All but the one Dell 600 m laptop are working fine. The http://forums.practicallynetworked.com/showthread.php?5872-Limited-or-no-connectivity-can-t-renew-IP-address laptop gets this error when trying to connect "this connection has limited or no connectivity" when I hit repair, it tells me that it can't renew my IP address. I have tried a number of things based on reading some posts: 1) I have turned off router, DSL modem, etc and turned back on 2) I have tried the winsock fix, which didn't work 3) I have tried the SP2 patch, which also didn't work 4) I have changed my network card speed (or something like that) to 10 mbs/full, still didn't work 5) I checked all connections, everything is fine, and all other computers work fine 6) I checked everything in the device manager and everything is working fine 7) i have tried running the cmd prompt -- ipconfig/release and then ipconfig/renew -- after the renew command I get an error message -- it can't connect with the dhcp server Any idea what I should do now? Also - are you connecting wirelessly or wired with the laptop? Reply With Quote 09-08-2005,09:10 AM #3 smills28 View Profile View Forum Posts Register

I'm sorry if this is a repeat post, I am running on limited time and figured this would be the fastest way to get a reply. I am currently working on a neighbor's laptop and trying to get it online. The problem I am having is, it is not fully releasing the IP address and picking up the IP for my network. It is normally online via a usb wireless adapter, but I am trying to run it wired from my router. The laptop is running Windows XP Personal SP3, Intel Pentium III E 700 MHz, 256 MB RAM, 20 GB HDD, Intel PRO/100+ MiniPCI network adapter. How would I be able to get it to release the IP for it's normal connection and get it to register the new connection to my router? I have tried using cmd-->ipconfig and it will release, but will not renew. It says the DHCP server is timing out. I have disabled the adapter and re-enabled it, but that didn't work either. Using the "Repair" function through Windows is telling me that the only error is that it cannot renew the IP address. I am at a loss right now. Please, any help would be appreciated. Thank you. __________________ Dell Inspiron 15R 5521 Laptop;Windows 8 64-bit;8 GB RAM;1 TB HD (crashed and replaced with older 60 GB HD);DVD-RW;Intel Core i7-3537U CPU @2.00GHz 2.50GHz;Wi-Fi;Comodo Firewall;Avast!
