Error 1434 permalink First off, I am running on Mac OSX Leopard (Can go windows if anybody has tips). My Ipod won't give me any screens but the Apple Screen, Charging, Ok to disconnect, and Don't disconnect. It doesn't allow me to connect to Itunes and when I try to connect it tells me " The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1434). So I tried to erase everything in DiskUtility and it won't let me at all. I can get to windows if necessary. When I turn the ipod on it makes a click noise on the hard drive also. Any ideas on what to do? Edit: How can I safely open the ipod without damaging the body and not having the proper ipod opening tool? EDIT: Hooked it up to windows and it restores but the hard drive clicks off and on and it sticks on the apple screen. Any ideas? Last edited by ktreece777; 03-14-2008 at 12:33 AM. 03-14-2

David is online now I have an iPod Classic 6th Generation which is up to date with Customer Question I have an iPod Classic 6th Generation which is up to date with all the latest updates on the ipod aswell as itunes. My iPod freezes a lot and sometimes restarts itself and its becoming impossible to do anything on it so I decided i'd stick it into the computer to restore it. But when I plug the iPod in, it says that iTunes had detected an error and the iPod “the iPod” must be restored. When I go to restore the iPod a message is displayed saying, "The iPod"iPod" Could not be restored. An Unknown error occurred (1434).I put the iPod into recovery mode and I was able to see it on iTunes as if there is nothing wrong. When I click restore is says something along the lines of, the iPod ‘Keira’could not be restored because it’s files are in use in another application. This message was shown when there was nothing opened but iTunes. Once I click "ok" on this message, another message is displayed reading, “the iPod “Keira”cannot be synced. This disk could not be read or written to”I ran a diagnostic test which someone suggested I should do and these are the results:Retracts: 21Reallocs: 0Pending Sectors: 5PowerOn Hours: 93Start/Stops: 758Temp: current 30CTemp: min 13CTemp: max 48CI’m lead to believe that large number of reallocs or pending sectors suggest the hard drive is failing??…. I have 0 reallocs and 5 pending sectors which suggests to me that the hard drive is fine...?I am using mac, but am able to use windows if neededAny ideas how I’m able to fix the issue please? Any help is much appreciated! :)Thanks Submitted: 5 years ago. Category:Mac Share this conversation Expert: David replied5 years ago.
