Word 95, what can I do if I get "Error 1025" when I try to open a file? When you get this error, it is possible that you are trying to use Word 6.0/95 to open a Word file that was saved in Word 97 format. To open the file using Word 95, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/161841 you first need to open the file in Word 97 and follow the steps below: From the File menu, choose Save As.... In the Save As dialog box, from the "Save As Type" drop-down menu, choose Word 6.0/95. Click the Save button. You will now be able to open the file in both Word 6.0/95 and Word 97. One approach that worked for me an that I was able to utilize when attempting to open a corrupted wor document was to use WordPad.
