I'm no noob but am feeling stupid. Why are the fields in a particular document showing "Error! Not a valid bookmark self-reference" when they're refreshed? It's a protected form full of bookmarked places to fill in your details. The bookmarks seem fine when I show 'em. I can raise a new form and template and fill it no problem, but when I (or the user who gave it to me) open this one it shows all the correct filled-in text until we try to print it, when the fields all turn into that error message. I googled the message and got hundreds of hits where that error message was given instead of the intended text. Andre The Hunter Guest Hi, I'm trying to create a bookmark that will modified under certain conditions. Let me show you what I mean. In the below example, I have a bookmark called year. Year is defined by user input from an ASK field. I want to make it so that a user can enter the year as the full yyyy or simply the two digit yy version. { IF { REF year } = "20*" "" "{ SET year "20{REF year}" }" }{REF year} The final REF field produces a "Error! Not a valid bookmark self-reference." The strange thing is that I've done similar things and it worked. { SET http://www.wordbanter.com/showthread.php?t=127298 deposit "{ = { REF full_fee} / 2 }" } Could it be because I'm referencing the bookmark I am setting? I have searched the Internet, and although I found instances of the error in other documents and converted PDFs, I could not find a description or solution to this REF field error. Any help is appreciated Andre' Andre The Hunter, Nov 18, 2007 #1 Advertisements macropod Guest Hi Andre, Try this: {QUOTE{ASK Year}{IF{=Year}={REF Year} http://www.office-forums.com/threads/ref-field-error-not-a-valid-bookmark-self-reference.1651007/ "{SET Year {IF{=INT(Year/1000)}> 0 {Year} {=MOD({=Year-1},100)+{IF{=MOD({=Year-1},100)+1}> {DATE \@ YY} 1901 2001}}}}{Year}" "Data Entry Error"}} I've gone beyond what you asked for, by adding a test to see whether the two-digit year is greater than the current two-digit year (eg 97) and, if so, converting it to a year from last century. I've also added some error checking. The bookmark you're after is conditionally set by: {SET Year {IF{=INT(Year/1000)}> 0 {Year} {=MOD({=Year-1},100)+{IF{=MOD({=Year-1},100)+1}> {DATE \@ YY} 1901 2001}}}} Cheers -- macropod [MVP - Microsoft Word] ------------------------- "Andre The Hunter"

Graham Mayor, Apr 24, 2009 #2 Advertisements Jonathan589 Guest Graham, thanks for your fast response and the problem is solved but not the puzzle. I got intelligent for a moment and looked up the original application form that the problem one should have been derived from. It has proper form fields that say {

These occur as data is entered into a bound form which has subforms bound to tables which have relationships to the 1st table. The tables are linked. Only one person accesses this area of the database. Once the second occurs it then appears each time the mouse is moved or a keystroke is entered. The only way to come out is to end the process. A database fix doesn't seem to make any difference. I'm fairly sure that the code doesn't do anything with bookmarks (its not my code). I have found this pair of errors on this forum and people have fixed the problem but nobody has ever actually posted how they did it. Problem is now causing huge disruption to the person that is using the database. Thanks. jason_nevin View Public Profile Find More Posts by jason_nevin 10-28-2004, 05:56 AM #2 jason_nevin Registered User Join Date: Nov 2002 Posts: 46 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts Sorry to be a pain but this really is causing problems.
