So you actually can't declare a varchar of the maximum row size, even if it's the only column in the table. mysql> CREATE TABLE foo ( v VARCHAR(65534) ); ERROR 1118 (42000): Row size too large. The maximum row size for the used table type, not counting BLOBs, is 65535. This includes storage overhead, check the manual. You have to change some columns to TEXT or BLOBs But if we try decreasing lengths, we find the greatest length that works: mysql> CREATE TABLE foo ( v VARCHAR(65532) ); Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.01 sec) Now if we try to use a multibyte charset at the table level, we find that it counts each character as multiple bytes. UTF8 strings don't necessarily use multiple bytes per string, but MySQL can't assume you'll restrict all your future inserts to single-byte characters. mysql> CREATE TABLE foo ( v VARCHAR(65532) ) CHARSET=utf8; ERROR 1074 (42000): Column length t
Back To Profile Nic Mason June 21 2010 [FIXED] - Install Error: DB function failed with error number 1074 Hi everyone, I'd love to test Anahita, but can't get through the install. I've satisfied the system requirements, and followed the instructions on the Downloads page, but am getting the error below when installing Anahita. I have Joomla 1.5.18, MySQL 4.1.22, and PHP 5.2.6, running on a GNU/Linux server. I've tried the install a few times, also re-installing Joomla with a MySQL database, and then a MySQLi. Any ideas? Nic Mason June 22 2010 Permalink Hi Rastin, Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, I installed and enabled the Nooku plugin before installing the Anahita Social Engine. If I want to try the installation again are there any files I should delete manually before re-installing? Is it something to do with "varchar"..? I searched a bit on Google for similar errors and some people suggested making varchar smaller as a temporary fix (ie: changing "varchar(256)" to "varchar(255)"...) Is this an option/good idea..? ...Or do you think it's more likely I'm just missing something on my server? Cheers, Nic Rastin Mehr June 22 2010 Permalink Hi Nic, Interesting we never had any database complaining about the varchar issue. Sure Change all the varchars greater than 255 to varchar(255) in the install.mysql.utf8.sql file and try installing again. Nic Mason June 22 2010 Permalink That
