The server is live and contains data and needs a constant backup companion. Many tutorials focus on how to setup replication when no data is present on the system. That's an ideal solution if https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/DCON-309 you're building a new setup, but in case you've got a server that already has data present then here's how to accomplish the this: setup your existing MySQL server (with data) as a Master export all your databases and user accounts create a slave and import all your data start replication I've done this several times and always forgot to take some notes - until today. Without further ado, let's replicate MySQL. Prerequisites We need http://wpguru.co.uk/2013/05/how-to-setup-mysql-masterslave-replication-with-existing-data/ the following ingredients for our project: a currently running MySQL Server we want to use as a master - it's live so we want to avoid downtime as much as we can a new MySQL server which contains no data - soon to be the slave root access to both servers, both for the OS and MySQL Note that any MySQL data on the slave we're creating will be wiped out. There are ways to keep several databases unsynchronized, but this is not covered here. I'm working on CentOS 6.4 here with MySQL 5.1. Whenever I issue commands to the OS the cursor prefix is "root# ", and when I'm issuing MySQL commands my cursor prefix is "mysql# " - hope this makes sense. Note that if you have access to phpMyAdmin on both servers, you'll be pleased to hear that there's a much easier and faster way to setup replication. This article however will focus on doing all this via the command line. Setting up the Master Our current server needs to write a log of everything he's doing from now on. This log is read later by the slave and contains a collection of statements of what has been executed by the master. Therefore the slave just remembers the position of where he last read the log, and from then onw

The install went well. http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=156074&page=2 However, I wanted to set my datadir to another folder where I already have MySQL databases. So I set innodb_data_home_dir and innodb_data_home_dir in the my.ini to mysql error point to that folder. After that, the Mysql service could not be started (Error 1067). In the error file in the datadir folder, the following lines were written: 091230 23:21:03 [Note] Plugin 'FEDERATED' is disabled. InnoDB: Error: log file .\ib_logfile0 is of different size 0 10485760 bytes InnoDB: than specified in the mysql error 14462 .cnf file 0 25165824 bytes! 091230 23:21:04 [ERROR] Plugin 'InnoDB' init function returned error. 091230 23:21:04 [ERROR] Plugin 'InnoDB' registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed. 091230 23:21:04 [ERROR] Unknown/unsupported table type: INNODB 091230 23:21:04 [ERROR] Aborting Do you have any idea what may be the cause of this ? However, I don't know whether it will work. Essentially, I want to buy a NAS drive to store all my XBMC media, and store the library on the NAS drive too. I then want to share the library out so any of my devices can access any of my media from where I left off last time I watched it. Can anyone tell me if this is possible, and what a good NAS drive would be? I don't mind about storage (I have a spare 2TB drive) but I don't want to spend too much. Also, is there any way I could use a Raspberry Pi to watch XBMC media via the NAS drive? Thanks for any advice. find quote cable_guy Fan Posts: 322 Joined: Aug 2008 Reputation: 0 Location: England 2013-02-13 21:37 Post: #2 yes it's a good idea and I do the same, although I'm too lazy to put the library database on one box but i'll do it eventually. Here's a good starting point: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW..._libraries MySQL support is a pretty standard feature for a NAS these days, but obviously make sure you choose a NAS with solid support and robust documentation before buying. I can't make any specific NAS recommendations because I use a home-made Ubuntu server, but whenever I've shopped around, it always seems to be a better deal to buy a diskless NAS system (i.e., one that doesn't include pre-installed hard drives) and then load it up with your own SATA drives.
