Accordingly my laptop's cpufreq doesn't run anymore. Until kernel 3.13.8, acpi-cpufreq has been loaded automatically as expected. If I try to load acpi-cpufreq manually on 3.14, # modprobe acpi-cpufreq modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'acpi_cpufreq': No such device Strangely if p4_clockmod was loaded initially, acpi-cpufreq can be loaded sucessfully too. My laptop's cpu is PentiumM though. # modprobe p4-clockmod # modprobe acpi-cpufreq In this case, available frequencies are messed up. # cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_frequencies 212500 425000 637500 850000 1062500 1275000 1487500 1700000 On 3.13.8 (This is correct.)

I have a new IntelD410PT with https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/458189-modprobe-acpi-cpufreq-gt-FATAL-Error-inserting-No-such-device the new MOPNV10N.86A.0158.2009.1126.1712 bios version.I have a fanless M350 box and was wondering why it was getting hot with very low load and found that /etc/init.d/cpuspeed wasn't loading, but it didn't output any errors for no such failing to load. I discovered that the acpi-cpufreq driver wasn't loaded so I tried to load it via modprobe. Attempting to load acpi-cpufreq yields the following error:FATAL: Error inserting acpi_cpufreq (/lib/modules/2.6.18-164.el5/kernel/arch/x86_64/kernel/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.ko): No such deviceSo I checked the /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/ and cpu1/ and they don't have the cpufreq directories in them. So basically kudzu isn't able to find the correct kernel module for speed stepping the Intel Atom D410 CPU. I looked no such device in the BIOS to look for enabling power management/cpu stepping via the OS - but the Intel BIOS doesn't have this option (I know, strange..). Enabling OS power management in the bios has been the solution on all the other boards for the last few years. After researching for several hours and not finding any solutions I decided to load Ubuntu 9.10 via liveCD/USB and it didn't automatically setup the cpufreq/cpuspeed either, and trying to load load acpi-cpufreq manually resulted in the same error. So I checked intel's website to confirm if speedstep / enhanced intel speedstep is even included in the D410 processor. It doesn't even list the D410 processor here: http://processorfinder.intel.com/List.a ... SearchKey= so I'm going to call them on Monday to try to figure this out...Does anyone know definitely if speedstep is included in the D410 processor? If so, is the acpi-cpufreq kernel module not updated to handle it?Here's a more of the /proc/acpi/processor/CPU0 files:Code: Select all::::::::::::::

Have you installed the YaST power utility? Open YaST / Software / Software Management, search on power and install yast2-power-management. Then, a new system item will be added. You must restart YaST to see it. Also, go into System Services (Runlevel), enable pm-profiler, start it and accept the new setup. Then, you can run YaST / System / Power Managem and select Low Latency Computing which should run your CPU at full speed.
