It's related to mDNS, Bonjour. etc. (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.local). Apple devices ask for the SOA record of .local to figure out if there is an Apple server running on the network. Your DNS server responds with a "no such name", as it does not have https://ask.wireshark.org/questions/43998/debug-dns-failure-no-such-namemalformed-packet any information about .local. Why the answer packet is flagged as malformed, I don't know, but that's not relevant here anyway. So, nothing to worry about and nothing you can change. Regards Kurt link answered 10 Jul '15, 00:13 Kurt Knochner ♦ 24.4k●10●35●228 accept rate: 15% Why the answer packet is flagged as malformed, I don't know Because it's too short. All the RRSIG records in the packet claim to be 158 bytes long, based on the data length, but, at the end, there's only room for a 74-byte record, so the packet is too short to have the 158-byte RRSIG at the end - much less the 6th authority RR or the additional RR that the record counts claim should be there. I did not look into it ;-) (10 Jul '15, 02:07) Kurt Knochner ♦ Your answer toggle preview community wiki Follow this questionBy Email:Once you sign in you will be able to sub

At first the error message was rare enough so I ignored it,but lately it has been coming up very, very frequently. It is very annoying. I have no idea what to do about that either. I also did what it asked about disabling the network prediction and that error still happens. Also sometimes the message says that their are conflicting IP addresses on the network. I have no idea what to do about that either. I was going to call the network administrator, thinking it was my internet company, but then I looked it up and turns out the network administrator of a home computer would be me. That's not going to help anything since I have no idea what I'm doing. So I came here. Opening chrome takes only a second, as it should. But as soon as I click on any of the thumbnailed sites (reddit.com, as an example), I have to wait. There's nothing in the browser indicating that it's loading, other than www.reddit.com appearing in the URL. I got curious, and started running WireShark to see what might be causing the slowdown. Any idea what's causing this? How do I fix it? This makes browsing terribly slow, and my wife is getting frustrated. I've tried adding these entries to the hosts file (which, Vista makes incredibly difficult), but to no avail. The hosts seem to be different each time, and I see no standard pattern. I've run Spybot against her machine, and s
