The same situation prevails in the case of Workstation 9.0.2. I open-vm-tools cannot mount filesystem no such device am desperate to find an answer.Regards, bostjanv 2145Views Tags: none (add) workstation_9Content tagged with workstation_9 This content has been marked as final. wth guest Ubuntu 13.04 JSen Jul 2, 2013 12:22 PM (in response to bostjanv) We at VMware are already aware of this issue about Shared Folders not working for Workstation 9.0.2 in a Ubuntu 13.04 Guest. The engineering team is working on fixing this issue for future maintenance update. Meanwhile, can you try mounting the shared folders manually in the VM?sudo apt-get install open-vm-toolssudo mount -t vmhgfs .host:/ /mnt/hgfs Like Show 0 Likes (0) vmware-hgfsmounter Actions 2. I tried your recipe, but ran into problems: when executing the first line I had to answer a set of queries, to which I answered with "N". I'm not sure that is correct. However, after the second line I received the messageError: cannot mount filesystem: Input/output errorPerhaps that is because I already have the /mnt/hgfs directory because I have retained my original tools installation (although the hgfs directory is empty). Question: do I have to uninstall the original VMware tools installation?Regards, bostjanvMessage was edited by: bostjanv Like Show 0 Likes (0) Actions 3. Using Open VMware Tools in this case while it would allow the VMware Shared Folders feature to work you'd need to manually mount the HGFS Share every time you reboot/shutdown and restart the VM, also Copy and Paste as well as Drag and Drop w

All works fine except that the main HD where I had all my files are now inaccessible. Here is the error message I get: Error mounting: cannot mount file mount exited with exit code 13: ntfs_attr_pread_i: ntfs_pread failed: Input/output error Failed to read NTFS $Bitmap: Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for more details Is it necessarily a hardware problem? If not, is there a way to repair the HD from Ubuntu? windows ntfs share|improve this question edited May 15 at 19:06 muru 68.7k12125173 asked Oct 31 '11 at 15:13 Calixte 67961528 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 17 down vote accepted chkdsk /R is a pretty important command when things get hairy with NTFS.
