system. I tried following instructions from: https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/bbswitch#reporting-bugs I initially reported the issue as: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=707783 Most of the information can be found at: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=707783#17 I hope this is enough to diagnosticate the issue. Thanks much malaterre commented May 25, 2013 I also tried following instructions from: https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/bbswitch/tree/hack-lenovo#lenovo-ideapad-y470y570-and-toshiba-satellite-p870 However it still fails: $ sudo modprobe acpi-handle-hack FATAL: Error inserting acpi_handle_hack

(/lib/modules/3.2.0-0.bpo.4-amd64/updates/dkms/acpi-handle-hack.ko): No such device Bumblebee-Project member ArchangeGabriel commented May 26, 2013 Is your BIOS in Optimus mode (if such a settings exist)? Also, Debian stable is quite a old distro, not really suitable for recent laptops like those embedding Optimus technology. And please uninstall acpi-handle-hack, it's only for overriding an issue on some Lenovo laptops (plus Toshiba P870). Bumblebee-Project member Lekensteyn commented May 26, 2013 Please paste the output of dmesg | tail after modprobing bbswitch. The dmesg.txt from the bugreport seems to originate from /var/log/dmesg.txt. That file only contains dmesg from boot afaik. malaterre commented May 27, 2013 @Lekensteyn dmesg output is empty since modprobe simply fails. Nothing gets written in /var/log/message. And everything seemed no such device to make sense and worked. I got my sample module compiled BUT there was a warning that might be an important lead to why this thing is failing. The warning was this one: WARNING: Symbol version dump /usr/src/linux-3.0.0/Module.symvers is missing; modules will have no dependencies and modversions. I frankly don't know why the Module.symvers file is not there. The /usr/src/linux-3.0.0 directory and all its contents were created by me after I dowloaded the sources using this command: apt-get source linux-image-$(uname -r) That was in fact the only step of that tutorial that I didn't follow, because I could not find the exact sources for my kernel (3.0.0-32-generic) and thought the aptitude tool would sort that out to me. And I'm running Ubuntu on a 64 bits machine by the way, here's the uname -a output: Linux vega 3.0.0-32-generic #51-Ubuntu SMP Thu Mar 21 15:50:59 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Any suggestions as to what to try next? any recommended reading? PS1. After some more research I confirmed I'm running the 3.0.0-32-generic. update-grub returned: Found linux ima
a relatively new Ubuntu (and Linux) developer. My current project is attempting to port a framebuffer driver for a small LCD display. This is for the 2.6.24 kernel (Ubuntu 8.04) Apparently, I am have a Makefile problem of some sort with the driver that I am attempting to port and modify. I have been able to use KDevelop to build the default "Hello World" module. I can get this module to install and uninstall using insmod / rmmod without a problem. When I work with my fb module though, weird things happen. If I use the (slightly modified) "Hello World" Makefile, the module builds fine in KDevelop. If I examine the hexl-mode display of the .ko file in Emacs, the MODULE_LICENSE("GPL") makes it in fine. However, neither insmod nor modprobe recognizes this as a module and, as a result, neither will load it. I have copied the .ko file to /lib/modules/
